1. Pogues - If I Should Fall From Grace With God
2. Tom Waits - Bone Machine
3. Loud Family - Plants and Birds and Rocks and Things
4. They Might Be Giants - Mink Car
5. Kate Bush - Aerial

I really want to put Eels - Daisies of the Galaxy in there, but I can't find one to boot. So I'd have that disk in the case with another one.

So let's start a new one. If you had a 20 gig iPod and the wonderful tree sap charger (check your local stores), what would you put on it?

Okay, just kidding.

I liked your pick of Rum Sodomy and the Lash (which still wins rewards as the best album title every, at least in my book), but it just seems like Fall From Grace is the peak - everything came together in that album in my opinion. Rum Sodomy and the Lash was fantastic, but there was still some tinkering. It's a pity Cait didn't stick around for Fall From Grace, otherwise I think it would have been even more perfect in my eyes. Stupid Elvis Costello.

Fall from grace has my fave Pogues song on it - Bottle of Smoke - and some of the other tracks nearly reach that level as well- Turkish Song of the Damned, Birmingham Six/streets of sorrow, south australia, but I think Rum Sodomy is stronger all round. There isn't a song on it that I'd skip! And Sally maclennane and sickbed of cuchulainn are only a tiny tiny bit below bottle of smoke.

Jon Anderson ~ Olias of Sunhillow
Pink Floyd ~ Meddle
Phillip Glass ~ koyaanisqatsi
Genesis ~ The Lamb lies down on Broadway
Yes ~ Going for the One

and a sixth, just because I would really want it...

Moody Blues ~ every good boy deserves favour

lol, if I could have 10!

6) Pink Floyd - Wish you Were Here
7) The Who - Quadrophenia
8) King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
9) Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
10) Dream Theater - Octavarium

Picking double albums kinda feels like cheating though. (Although there are probably not more than 5 really good double albums now that I think about it)

That leaves what? 8 out of 10 bands are British. Why do you damn brits have to make such awesome Rock music? (And Comic books too) I am way too much of a musical Anglophile.

P.S. And what am I listening to now? Queensryche...

Queensrÿche is from Washington.

Sad, but most of the stuff I really like, other than the LA Metal, is all from the UK.

*nodding*

I think Philip Glass is American, but otherwise pretty much UK for me as well.

Although, if I were to switch out the Moody Blues, it would be for Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene, who is French, or Ray Lynch's Deep Breakfast, who is American...

Miles Davis - Miles Smiles
The Cure - Disintegration
U2 - Achtung Baby

And if I get a sixth -

Queensryche - Promised Land

Hey Sorus, one of these days could you please dig out your "around the world in metal" list?

Thanks.

I was bored last night, and decided to go through this thread counting up how many votes each band got, to see who was most popular on KW. It's a few threads merged, so some people have given their lists more than once, but I've counted each one, on the rationale that those people probably like their music more, so their votes should have greater weight.

The results are not surprising in the least, considering the banter in Vespers!
Spoiler
1. Pink Floyd (16 times on a list)
2. Led Zeppelin (10)
3. Beatles (8 )
=3. Rush (8 )
5. Tool (7)
6. King Crimson (6)
=6. Radiohead (6)
And because I'm in a statisticky mood, now I'm going to work out where each band is from and add up each country's votes. So, of 274 albums mentioned (I didn't include classical or soundtracks), which country got the most votes? England and USA were way out in front, but which got most? It was tight between Canada, Ireland, and Scotland for third, as well....And other than those, only five other countries got a look in.

(I have far too much time on my hands  )
Spoiler
1. England 121
2. USA 120
3. Canada 10
4. Ireland 8
5. Scotland 7
6. Sweden 3
7. Australia 2
8. Iceland 1
9. Jamaica 1
10. South Africa 1
