parts of galveston, bolivar, crystal beach, surf sid3e - may never recover.
I am so sad to hear that. I used to go to Crystal Beach all the time as a kid. Glad to know you and yours are ok.

I just talked to my family in Houston and they're all ok.

It's been a week since Ike, I live in Louisville, which some of you may know is at least 800 miles from the gulf coast, and my power is STILL out at home! I'm at my parent's now, and they just got power back yesterday.

Our power bill came on Thursday :(

I expect next month's will be lower than usual. ;)

I can totally empathize, having gone through this sort of thing myself very often.

haha Fat chance. I remember right after Katrina hit we were out of power for two whole weeks. The next month I got my electricity bill and it was $165. My normal bill was $50 at most. I called and demanded why the bill was so high when I didn't use any freaking energy for two weeks! They told me because gas was scarce they had to charge everyone more to bring the gas to the power grids. BS if you ask me.

Sounds like a load of BS to me, too.

I don't think our electric bill has ever been higher after the power's been out following a storm.

After 13 days, 12 hours, we finally have power as of 2:15 PM this afternoon. Whew. It was good time to get know our neighbors a little better: running a line from a generator to those to didn't have one - Outside group meals, sharing food that was in our refrigerators/freezers that wouldn't keep for long, etc.

As much as I would like to complain about how long it took, I should probably point out that there are still 377,000 homes still without.

And, if you could get them to spray for mosquitoes sometime soon ... :-x
