I usually try to ignore them until the second or third impression can validate them or refute them. The key word is try--I sometimes fail. So not always, but sometimes.

*warning, it tastes terrible*

brew a cup of very strong horehound tea
while steeping, also steep one small chopped raw onion in the same water
strain out the tea leaves and onion
add a teaspoon or so of local (if you can get it, otherwise any kind of) honey
sip before it cools off
repeat throughout the day when a warming drink is desired

Eastern, Western, or "alternative" medicine?

A combination, depending on what is cheapest, most reasonable, most likely to work, least invasive, and least likely to be addiction-forming. Definitely avoiding the more "superstitious" approaches though.
(That remedy does sound nasty, Menolly, but if I get desperate I just may try it.)

Freedom. With freedom you might get some peace/stability....but not necessarily the other way around.
