You don't cancel each other out unless you vote opposite candidates in the same state. You're electing electoral college electors for your state, so California and Massachusettes won't effect each others results...

I know that, Menolly, and HLT knows that, we just love to bicker. In fact it's the basis of our entire relationship.

Hey.

My vote cancelled out HLT's. So we're covered. Don't give CMJ the credit.

A question maybe someone here knows the answer to...

I believe these result predictions are based on exit polls, not precinct results. A lot of votes were cast absentee, military, and early. I have heard, although I don't know if it is true, that military votes have two weeks after Election Day to arrive and be counted. When are early, absentee, and military votes tallied into the official results? Could the Election Day results say one thing, and because of early, absentee or military votes, have the results turned around at a later date?

*suspecting perhaps Syl knows the answer regarding military ballots*

Early and absentee votes are counted on election night.

Military votes, if they're there, are counted then as well. What they do with late arrivers, I don't know.

Well, I switched my telle to CBC for awhile, and it's quite a drastic change from the US news stations. Now I'm flippin back and forth.

This'll be an interesting night!

I'm also flipping back and forth between the CBC and the US networks (primarily CNN).

I've been watching the cnn map. I had an amusing ride home on the bus. This guy sitting next to me was yammering non stop about CNN predicting Obama winning in a landslide and was blathering all these incredibly wrong facts and figures loudly to these two elderly women across the aisle. The guy on my left and I were laughing as he spouted such figures as California's 316 electoral college votes... HAHAHHAHAHA! The elderly gentleman on the other side of the guy who was laughing with me got into it as we whispered the proper figures etc to one another. It went on for forty minutes as there was bad bridge traffic again. After we got out of the bridge traffic and got to Mission St another elderly gentleman got on the bus and I offered him my seat and he said yes but the younger guy sitting next to me stood up before I could and the old guy sat down. After about another five minutes the old guy was like, "What an idiot." so I started laughing and said, "Sorry, I should have warned you before you sat down." We had a good laugh over that.. Then he says, I'll be glad when all this election noise is over except that just means the damn Christmas music is gonna start. It's enough to drive a man to drink except I quit thirty years ago." I laughed so hard that tears squirted out of my eyes. His delivery was hysterical. While we were sitting the first old guy was getting off the bus and he said,'Got much further to go?" and I said, "Six stops." and he smiled and said, "Good Luck Miss." Then the other old guy got off the stop before me and he actually lifted his hat and did a head bow and said, "Have a nice evening, young lady. It's been a pleasure." That made me blush and giggle. I love it when there is fun comraderie on the buses. :P

ABC projects McCain took Texas' 35 electoral college votes though...

Right now ABC is also saying 200/130 for Obama, and in the popular vote only leads 50% to 49%. So far, definitely not the landslide everyone was predicting...
