Easy solution: Gil does your job and sends you the pay.

Uh...dunno that that would solve *Gil's* problem, however....

Good luck with the job hunt, Gil!

I feel depressed, verging on miserable. A large part of it is because I'm lacking sleep, from working on my essay. But even though my emotions are exaggerated by tiredness, the base would be there anyway. I've been mentally combing through all my friends, and I can only think of one who'd go out of their way to help me if I needed it. I feel that's a bad state of affairs.

Oh well.

Oh, and my back hurts from hunching over my laptop for so long. I can't wait to be finished with 'the significance of the concept of Celtic in early medieval British archaeology'.

1 friend is all you need sometimes Cov. The quality of that one friendship could outweigh the quantity of many.

How does one feel when plans 9 months in the making, dreams 4 years in the dreaming are snuffed out due to bureaucratic red tape?

When all your hopes of happiness are quashed with little chance of realisation....

....I have a pretty good idea of how one feels.

Ugh, sounds rough. Is there anything bureaucracy can't destroy?

I can only think of one thing: bureaucracy.

Good answer.

Though I wonder...could civilized society do without it? Would the alternative be anarchy? Or is bureaucracy just an extreme form of order, while anarchy is an extreme form of disorder, and the trick is to find a happy medium between the two?

From my limited experiences, bureaucracy has nothing to do with order, and is in fact quite unorganized.

 You have hit upon my problem with the whole blogging/Twittering phenomenon. Maybe I lack self-confidence...but I just can't envision an audience out there that would be hanging on every. word. I. type. Even my kids don't care that much about what I do all day. ("That's nice, Mom....")

And if there *is* an audience out there for all my daily incoherence: Jeez, people! Get a life already!

Heh, yeah. That's why my I really only use myt blog as a private diary when I need to rant about something. I don't keep a diary generally, but sometimes stuff needs to be poured out at a length (and with a venom) that a listener wouldn't appreciate.
