I like some of Opeth's stuff, other parts not so much.

Orchid is a pretty sweet album :D

EDIT: OK, upon listening to some more Opeth, they are way better than I remember. Awesome! :D

If we're talking Opeth, I favour Blackwater Park and Still Life.

I quite enjoy Arch Enemy, but mostly pre-Angela. Wages of Sin is a good album, but after that they seemed to lose the plot a bit. I mostly listen to Burning Bridges and Stigmata.

I've only heard one Scar Symmetry song, but it's pretty good.

Arch Enemy pretty much stole their sound from Heartwork-era Carcass, so that's a good bet. I'm also fond of a little-known British melodic DM band called Matron.

It is a good album, but I still prefer slightly earlier stuff - though not the earliest so much. I never actually got their last album (Watershed, I think) though I saw them on the tour.

There's some Arch Enemy stuff I like, some I don't. And yeah, Wages of Sin is probably my favourite Arch Enemy album.

I'm gonna check out Matron.

Heaven Shall Burn = awesome.

Wintersun have a few good songs.

What, not deathy enough? :? Fine: Absolute Vengance, All Shall Perish, Amon Amarth, The Black Dahlia Murder, Burzum... Those are more deathy.

Hey, don't get me wrong. I like Helloween and some Stratovarius, but the deathliness is pretty damn low there.

Well, midway between those bands and the melodic death bands, who do we have? Children of Bodom. Or we did, before they became generic metalcore a couple of years ago.

Add to CoB's power-death some longswords and armour made from fur, and you get my introduction to metal: Ensiferum

OH my god! emoticons will not suffice! I love any world in which the phrase "became generic metalcore" has meaning.

the hyperbole is a beauty...for we are then allowed to say a little more than the truth...and language is more efficient when it goes beyond reality than when it stops short of it.

Morbid Angel - Lord of All Fevers and Plagues.

Almost got thrown out of my studio apt for playing it. Ha!
Sweet peace come to me
Calm the chaos churning within
Sweet Jesus enwrap me
Enlighten my heart so dim

My soul seeks Thee
In breathless desperation it cries
Sweet Jesus enwrap me
As my body slowly dies...

As far as I can say they personally got along with each other quite well.
