Billy Ray Ciryus and Culture Club playing RUSH tribute

Seriously NOT, but look what I found while browsing so my concert souvenirs.

Image

Support act were Primus and it was the day when I seriously considered selling my bass guitars and become a train conductor.

Btw, ticket price was 40 Deutsche Mark. That would have been like 30 Dollars. 8 years earlier I saw KISS (with newcomer Bon Jovi as support) for almost half the price (23 DM). Today I wouldn't be able to see the local punk band playing the youth centre for that price.

Now that I have your attention feel free to move/merge or delete the thread.

Same here - and I still think of RTB as one of the new Rush albums ...

Having been to 5 Rush shows over the years, I agree... there's no way Roll the Bones can be that old.

And 2112 just came out a couple years ago didn't it? I mean I bought it on 8-track, the week it came out... it surely hasn't been that long ago...

Saw that tour in Worcester, MA. The only Rush show I ever saw. I was somewhat disappointed that they just played everything exactly the same as on the CD, had no stage show whatsoever, and even hid the other musicians contributing to the music. And the rapper lines from Roll the Bones they just played a tape of.

There are no other musicians, other than Amie Mann, who sang backup on "Time Stand Still' in the studio. most of the 'extra' stuff is just layering in the studio, all done by Geddy, Alex and Neil. I think Alex did the rap in the studio. There are no other musicians.

It's been, as has been mentioned, a long time ago. But IIRC there was some backup vocals, some brass, things like that. I had the pleasure of sitting to the side and a little behind the stage: I could see some musicians through a gap behind the stage... Or at least, so I recall. Maybe that was Dire Straits...

As far as I remember those sounds were all sampled and triggered off by Geddy Lee - the only man to sing, playbass and at the same time operate a synthizer/sample machine with his feet.

The other memory I have of this night is Les Claypool playing the lead, rhythm and bass track of "Master of Puppets" all alone.

I don't think that was Rush. All the shows I've been too, and all the bootleg videos I've watched... it's always just the 3 of them.

They play a lot of sampled stuff they pre-recorded, so they get the full sound, but it's still just the 3.

And they rock!!

I guarantee that wasn't Rush. Frankly, I'd be disappointed to see anybody doing that.
