Movie - Music Syncs

Post by Menolly »

For me, the most well known is the synchronization of The Wizard of Oz with Dark Side of the Moon. I have yet to see it though. I have found several versions posted online, but none of them seem to sync at the exact starting point for it to work, which is the third roar of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer lion at the beginning. I hope to come across it one day.

This was brought to mind because I stumbled across a pretty awesome synchronization last night while searching youtube for a video of Pink Floyd's Echoes other than the Pompeii performance.

2001: A Floyd Odyssey

Does anyone know of other synchronizations that work as well?

disclaimer: I don't know if there is another thread that discusses various synchronizations, other than balons! thread Dark Side of the Rainbow over in Vespers. I did a search, but with search broken nothing came up; and I scrolled through all 19 pages of Flicks topic subjects. If this is discussed elsewhere, feel free to merge.

The synch between the ending of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Pink Floyd's Echoes works well because both are similarly abstract and psychedelic. Like Menolly, I have yet to find a synched pairing of The Wizard of Oz and Dark Side of the Moon that really worked...but there is so much buzz to be found about this, one has to think there must be a properly synched version to be found somewhere.

Meanwhile, I have found a synch between Leni Riefenstahl's Triumph des Willen and the soundtrack to Roger Water's film Pink Floyd The Wall.

The Triumph of the Wall

Yes, the visual portion is a 1935 Nazi propaganda film, but consider how the story arc of The Wall forms a counterpoint to the film's message...

Since the synch is a 30 part playlist and not everyone is going to have the time or patience to go through the whole thing, here are some highlights:

Goodbye Blue Sky
Comfortably Numb
Run Like Hell

Interesting that all three are to Floyd albums...

There's an interesting comment buried deep in the 2001: a Floyd Odyssey thread, way towards the beginning of the comments. Someone claims if you play Echoes while leaving the original soundtrack on, the audio alternates. Echoes plays when the original is silent, and vice versa.

I haven't found an upload of that version though...

I saw a video of Rush's High Water synched to The Donald Duck/Noah segment of Fantasia 2000; it's pretty cool, but I can't find it on YouTube.

And then, of course, there's this: home.swbell.net/syncdude/bgl2.htm

(Edit: Had the wrong song referenced)

Dandelion don't tell no lies
Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion

I'm afraid there's no denying
I'm just a dandelion
a fate I don't deserve.
