While not the strongest songwriter of the bunch, Mary was an essential voice in the trio of Peter, Paul and Mary. Their folk songs were often pointedly socially relevant without being abrasive protest. And then there's that rascal, Puff...

I know she was ill for a long time.

I can't remember exactly the year I saw them live, but I think it was before Beorn was born. She sounded just as heavenly as ever, but even then one could tell she was not 100% well.
