Mount and Blade: Indie Gem

Post by The Dreaming »

I recently downloaded this game after reading a glowing review.

This game has, far and away, the best mounted combat I have ever experienced in a game. The game it reminds me of most is probably Sid Meijer's Pirates, but with more action and less whimsy and tactical combat.

A rare hyper realistic fantasy setting. No spells and Balrogs, just spears and crossbows. You can play up to level 6 for free, and the pre set skirmishes give you a nice taste of what gameplay is like later in the game.

I agree. This game is excellent fun, especially when you are awarded your own fiefdom. There are many shortcomings to the game, but some of those I really like (the complete absence of a story was actually refreshing). The combat is just phenomenal. In fighting battles or tournaments, the melee in this game can't be surpassed.

That satisfying CHUNK when your weapon strikes flesh... I could do it for hours and hours. It really sounds like it hurts.

Yeah. For me, there's nothing quite like bursting through a wall of infantry with thirty men on horseback, running them through with lance, then wheeling around to crash through again.

Sounds like my sort of thing. I'll give it a try when I get chance.
