They're mad, I tell you...

Post by Menolly »

...mad. 8O

The two of them.
I live in a household of madmen.

Beorn was assigned to write a brief sermon, using a general "sin" in the style of Jonathan Edwards. He is supposed to read it himself in class to present it, but Hyperception recorded himself reading it as an example of the style, since Beorn and I are Jewish and don't get exposed much to it...

The Sin of Disobeying Your Mother!!

Expand the "more info" link in the description for the text of what Beorn composed.

I knew constantly telling him "do not ask permission from your father to do something you *know* I would not allow!" would sink in somehow!!! ;)

Can we get a recording of Beorn's reading?

I doubt it.
He refused to practice delivering it at all.

I think he intends to get away with playing the recording of Hyperception doing it. I expect a massive FAIL on that happening.

I admit I'm looking forward to hearing what all actually did happen in class today after that FAIL, and he has to deliver it himself...

Yes, I fully expect you are correct. No responsible teacher is going to accept a student playing a pre-recorded performance -- even in the student's voice, much less that of a practiced orator -- in place of a live oral presentation. A certain FAIL, and he is truly mad to expect to get away with it.

Ah well, another lesson from the school of experience...

The question of if Beorn was going to read his sermon himself is left hanging. Apparently he was called to present and the bell rang as he was standing...

...to be continued, perhaps.

Now would be a good moment for reflection on the lesson of the sermon and a possible decision to try a little rehearsing so as to be prepared to give a good performance. Beorn is likely to be the first one called upon tomorrow; his performance will set the bar for the class that day.

I know you sometimes hesitate to push too much, but perhaps you can ask about how others delivered their sermons today and plant a seed for him to consider how a strong performance, inspired by Hyperception's reading and backed with some rehersal (rather than just intent...) would be better received than playing a recording that will probably not be accepted by the teacher and might prompt some scorn from classmates.

Beorn claims his teacher did not bring it up.
They turned the hard copies in yesterday.

I assume she ran out of time for the students to read them, and he will not be presenting...

That boy is SO lucky, if he got out of the oral portion of the assignment that easily! Does the teacher plan so poorly as not to allocate time for all students to equally fulfill the requirements?

...dunno...

Beorn said that she ran over in her explanation of the weekly essay assignment she handed out yesterday, so maybe.

Interesting topic for the upcoming essay though. I'm interested in seeing what he has to say on the subject.
