Favorite songs by favorite band!

Just to digress a wee bit

I liked most albums up to Kid A, and haven't found much I've enjoyed since Kid A. I really tried to like Kid A, but in the end it didn't to anything for me. I think you're right about it being a polarizing album - to use a Regurgitator term: "I like their old stuff better than their new stuff"

Have you listened to In Rainbows? It's surprisingly sweet after the challenging and dark three albums that preceded it. Its probably their easiest album to listen to since The Bends. Probably the only Radiohead album I could listen to on a pretty Sunday morning.

There are moments on that album of cathartic aural bliss. (Like the break in the middle of Bodysnatchers) It's rare to see such huge talent manage that much restraint and taste.

Radiohead got me with a live version (on SNL years ago) of 'National Anthem'. Best RH song ever....

Yeah, I do like In Rainbows, but I suppose their darker stuff is my favorite. I remember, though, when In Rainbows came out, sitting in front of Windows Media Player's Battery Visualization and just spacing out for the entirety of such tracks as Nude and Faust Arp.

What was your opinion of the way they released the album; on the net with people paying what they thought it was worth?

1) Fake Plastic Trees
2) High and Dry
3) Just
4) Paranoid Android

6) Creep (sometimes...)

Probably gives you an idea of the era I like

I thought it was a daring move. A dare to greedy record companies. In other words, the band was nuts. (heh)

However, as a consumer, I went and bought the CD at the store. (I don't buy stuff online.) I fully admit that I've only listened to it once, but I don't regret paying for the CD. (It was only $10, a very reasonable price.) Radiohead is a band that has earned my support.

Nice to see someone select stuff from Floyd's first album as favorites. Piper at the Gates of Dawn is a tremendously fun listen.

Also, thanks for the link to Home by the Sea/Second Home by the Sea. First time I've viewed a live performance of the songs. Impressive stage!

I feel both Piper and Saucerful are under appreciated these days. But I still enjoy them both.

It was the best piece they did at the concert Hyperception and I saw at the then Joe Robbie! But the entire show was awesome!

It took me about three and a half hours to choose which videos I wanted for each song in that post.

In a word - Genius. I payed 4 pounds for it. The studio system is an anachronistic parasite that deserves to be toppled. An individual with some powerful software on a home computer can come pretty damn close to recreating anything a studio can put our these days. We frankly don't need the middlemen anymore.

Fearless is a powerful adjective to throw around, but it's apt when describing Radiohead. They are one of the few bands that has the balls to give something their fanbase isn't ready for, to trust in aesthetics over commercial viability. Brass Balls is what they have, and damn if I don't love 'em for it.
