...and liked it? The first time I did this was early on in high school. I mistook Alice in Chains for STP (Dirt and Sex-Type Thing were both out at that time). To this day, I'm glad I did. While I eventually listened to STP, it's had nowhere near the impact on me that AiC has.
Now, I find myself listening to Oneida rather than Unida. I noticed I lost the latter's albums when I had to reformat my hard drive, and for reasons beyond my understanding, I typed in the wrong name. Maybe I'd been looking at flatware the other day or something.
Anyway, it's strange, but I like it. Somewhere between Ween and Mogwai. Not sure if it will make it to my car, but it's good background music if nothing else.

Ever bought the wrong album...
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

That I can remember, I've only bought the wrong album once. I was in Amoeba Records a few years ago, and digging through their zillions of CDs. There was a little bitty band I had one CD from called Pooka, and I really liked it, and wondered if they might have something else from them, since I was finding everything else I had been looking for for years. Well, I found one that said Pooka Stew which I thought was Pooka - Stew, but I was wrong. Dead wrong. As you may have guessed, the band was named Pooka Stew, and was self titled (or I was an idiot and didn't noticed the album name). Pooka Stew was definitely not my thing. But at least it was a cheap mistake.

I bought Boston's 2nd album Don't Look Back when I was a 14 year old kid, thinking a track on it was something I heard at the skating rink, and I liked the cover, so I figured I liked it enough to buy it. I took it home and asked my dad to use his stereo. He said okay, but I had to use the headphones. At this point in life, I only had a dinky AM radio, and the only loud music I heard was at the rink, and that was mostly disco. And disco was what I was expecting when I dropped the needle on this album. Talk about an OMG moment; the album blew my mind! Disco was no longer something I could even pretend to be interested in......
