Saw this movie over the weekend and loved it. It's an anti-romantic comedy that subverts various Romantic comedy tropes to great effect. It's a poigent story of a young man who falls desperately in love with a woman starts a relationship with her and is ultimately frustrated because the object of his desire does not return the intensity of his affection.
It asks does "true love" exist? If it does how should it be pursued? It admits relationships are messy and there aren't always happy endings, unless there are.

Yeah, my wife and I enjoyed it. It's one of the rare, true-to-life romantic movies (yeah, yeah. I know it's not a love story). Reminded us of our young selves in different relationships, though we both identified with the same character.
Part of Up in the Air reminded me of it. What's with these women and weddings? Some kind of new feminism thing?
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I'm watching Stargate Universe. There's a fairly intense debate about a female character who "friendzoned" a male character with whom the male geeks watching the show have a great deal of sympathy. In the season finale they are talking and she explains why telling this guy (Eli) he is her friend isn't a "runner-up prize." A lot of fans have gotten angry saying that's not fair to Eli. I think they are dead wrong.
That plus "500 Days of Summer" really made me think back to my own experiences. It's so devestating when the person you like doesn't return the same affection you have for them. But what else can they do but be honest. Wanting them to "like" you can't make them do so. Their feelings may change with time but getting angry about how they feel is such a waste of emotion. Yet it was so easy to do.
I look back at my younger self and want to ask him, "What were you thinking?"

The difference between Chloe and Zoe (Deschanel, Summer), is that the latter was honest throughout. I still think the wedding part showed bad judgment, though.
Plus, Eli just got cockblocked by Scott. Scott isn't exactly a dumb jock, but he's pretty close. The writers and actors have shown no emotional connection between Chloe and Scott. They just get together and screw and occasionally get angsty when they think the other is dead/dying. Meanwhile, she consistently leans on Eli for emotional validation. If she has known (and I never doubted she did), it just makes her actions when she got drunk back on Earth that much more callous. She said it's not a runner-up prize, but I say she just doesn't want to be seen as a slut.
Plus, there's the whole thing with the mutiny. She totally distracted Eli, and she has completely failed to be honest about it. Not to mention, it was a stupid idea for her to go along with their plan. She's pretty much lost all sympathy from me, and if she dies, I'd just feel bad for Eli.

I don't believe Chloe knew when the take over was going to go down. I think her first inkling was when the Shuttle couldn't dock. Thus, she runs to get Rush to stop. I don't believe she was trying to distract Eli.
Now, if she's guilty of anything it was not bringing Eli into the planning. But, Eli was up Young's butt so he wasn't safe to talk to.
All that said I believe Chloe really likes Eli as a friend. She jumped into his room to get him out of there as the LA surged from the Gateroom in Incursion Pt. 1 when she could have run for safer quarters. Her speech to Eli about how he's not getting a Runner up prize with her friendship was well done.
She doesn't owe Eli more than she's given. They are friends. That's enough.
