Green Hornet trailer

Post by danlo »

Green Hornet

I had the Corgi Black Beauty back in the day--lost all the little rockets and attachments right away, in fact building houses and fake garages for the Black Beauty inspired my stellar Lego-architect career. I held on to that dam Black Beauty longer than my oldest Hot Wheels Ferrari (I collect them-am up to 22 right now, btw). I used to get in fights with my older sister, who had to watch I Love Lucy, and then I got in fights with my younger sister who had to watch The Flintstones-over watching The Green Hornet. Batman was a whimp compared to Kato, James Bond take a back seat.

Of course The Green Hornet is primarily famous for launching the career of Bruce Lee--but the character of Britt Reid is a bit more complex--Van Williams was cool and dashing (especially as Reid) but kind of bumbling and inept as The Green Hornet himself-so he was a very odd type of hero-with Kato bailing him out all time. So I can see how a movie remake could easily swing towards comedy, but Seth Rogen is probably the last actor I'd envision, so when I saw his promo during the World's Series I said, "This is some kind of a joke, right?"

Actually, if the trailer is any indication, it looks like he's lost some weight and is taking the film pretty seriously. The Black Beauty and the effects are a real tribute to the original show. So, to me (as much as a Green Hornet Head as aTOMiC is an Shell-Head (Iron Man)) this looks pretty dang promising!

Saw the trailer. Gotta say I'm not really looking forward to it. Looks a bit too much like The Shadow in that it seems to insert gags to lighten up the whole thing. But maybe I'm wrong! Wouldn't be the first time...

My exposure to the Green Hornet has come very late in life. I'd always heard about the show but never actually laid eyes on it until about a year ago. I'm sitting watching a retro cable station and enjoying an episode of the 60's Batman when after the show is over on comes The Green Hornet. Clearly GH was produced by the same folks that made Batman which put me in the right mood for watching this first episode. However for some reason even getting to see Bruce Lee wasn't enough to make me appreciate the show all that much. I'm sure I would have loved it if I had watched it in syndication back in the 70s when I was a kid.

This new movie, via the trailer, apparently has all the proper production values of a big budget hero movie however I was kind of put off by the comedic approach. I don't really seem to have a problem with Seth Rogan but playing the Green Hornet story up for laughs is kind of disrespectful to the fans of the character. However it's just a trailer the film itself could end up being charming and cool.

danlo as you say I am a huge Iron Man fan and I was treated to not one but 2 very cool Iron Man films and will enjoy the character again in the Avengers movie and possibly an Iron Man 3. I'm not sure GH fans will be as pleased but I'm willing to be wrong about that.

As I understand it the schedule for Marvel movie releases is Thor next May, Captain America next July, The Avengers May 2012 and Iron Man 3 sometime in 2013.

I will of course be there to see them all God willing.

OK the car is cool, but after seeing the lame Carl's Jr. commercials I'm rapidly losing my desire to watch this... :(

We went to see it and thought it was very entertaining, as well.

Many people probably aren't going to understand the relationship that Britt and Kato have but if you tell them "they are brothers and sometimes brothers fight" they will get it.

I wish the Al Hirt theme music would have gotten more play time, though. It's one of the best trumpet pieces ever recorded.

I thought the brotherhood aspect was explained well enough. My only beef was the two of them, each about 30 years old, going gaga over Cameron Diaz, who looks about 10 years older than them.
