Rogue Trader - Profit Factor, Endeavours and Misfortunes

Post by Montresor »

Profit Factor

Rogue Trader Dynasties are far too wealthy to quibble over a few Thrones. Their wealth is measured in far greater terms, and many of the things they attempt to possess cannot be bought with something so petty as money. Profit Factor refers to an abstract representation of the wealth and influence of a Dynasty. All players have access to the Profit Factor, and this is the measure against which all new Acquisitions are made (from a las-gun to a company of mercenaries).

The Profit Factor is directly influenced by every member of the retinue, indeed, many of them may directly add bonuses to it by right of birth or reputation.

Endeavours

Endeavours are business ventures taken on by the Rogue Trader's Dynasty and their retinue. They represent a vast number of possible tasks carried out for profit. Examples of Endeavours may be - establishing an Imperial Colony, ferrying vast numbers of pilgrims into the expanse, exploring uncharted star systems, or establishing trade between the Calixis Sector and a world/system in the Koronus Expanse.

Endeavours range in their significance and, consequently, in their rewards. Once an Endeavour is completed, the Dynasty (and all players in the retinue) gain a bonus to the Profit Factor, increasing the overal wealth. Endeavours have a necessary series of tasks to fulfill, each worth a certain amount of points towards completing the Endeavour. Sometimes the retinue may complete an Endeavour with more points than were necessary. If this is the case, the Profit Factor is further increased.

Besides Dynasty-based Endeavours, individual members of the retinue may be presented with personal Endeavours which, when completed, will further add to the Profit Factor.

Occasionally, Endeavours may also present other possible rewards for completion besides Profit Factor.

All current and completed Endeavours will be listed in this thread. None will be listed until the campaign actually begins.

Misfortunes

Misfortunes represent events and calamities which befall the holdings of the Dynasty. Rogue Trader Dynasties have numerous enemies, sometimes from within their own ranks, who scheme to reduce the wealth and influence of the family. Misfortunes cover events and schemes which specifically reduce the Profit Factor of the Dynasty. Such events may be - pirate raids on holdings in the Expanse, a sector-wide slump in trade in the Calixis Sector, or a smear campaign by a rival Dynasty.

If Misfortunes are not addressed quicjly, the loss to the Profit Factor will become permanent.

All current and resolved Misfortunes will be listed in this thread.

PROFIT FACTOR

816 M.41

The Amphael Dynasty, once a powerful and wealthy family, have slipped inexorably into near financial ruin. The two millenia since their formation have seen many triumphs, but also many more calamities. Much of the old family holdings have been sold off or bartered to uphold their influence. Most other Rogue Trader families have scarcely heard of the Amphaels, even though this Dynasty has lasted centuries longer than many.

Though their finances are in arrears, there is still hope for a resurgence of their name, power, and wealth. The Amphaels own a powerful ship with an excellent crew, and have the opportunity to exploit the potential riches of the Koronus Expanse. If they do not, they are destined to fade into complete obscurity.

BOUNTIES

This is a list of wanted men and women, accessed on Drak-Kung's Data-Slate. Anyone could apprehend or eliminate these people, but only Drak-Kung has the contacts to make a profit out of this endeavour.

Retimus Hale - Wanted for Heresy. Retimus Hales was a scribe working for the Pheld Corporation. While engaged in his studies, Retimus was discovered to have authored a number of flyers portraying the Emperor as an ordinary human being, and not a divine figure. Retimus's most infamous publication - Golden Lies, the farce of the Immortal - was sold widely in the Hives of Cirsus, before it's discovery by the Inquisition. Last seen in Port Wander. It is believed he is looking for a way out of Calixis. Not considered dangerous. Wanted Dead or Alive.

Ketch - Wanted for Theft, Murder, Rape, Fraud. Petty criminal Ketch wished to establish himself as a ganger of note, though he lacked restraint and had no backing from any of the powerful bosses on Port Wander. Tired of his robberies and random acts of disruptive violence, known cartel leaders set a bounty for his head. Apprehended by Drak-Kung in Port Wander.

Boss Deff - Vile xenos, Ork Warboss. Boss Deff escaped Imperial Justice when a large part of his Rok broke free during the Helfon Engagement near the Void Dancer's Roil. The Rok was known to have impacted with the surface of Helfon-One, a remote Mechanicus outpost in the system. Rudimentary investigation of the wreckage failed to confirm Boss Deff's elimination. Terminate with extreme prejudice.

Gabriel Urestes - Renegade Navigator. Goes under a number of assumed names and disguises. Known for leading vessels astray into dangerous regions of the Void and the Warp. A confidence-trickster who appears to have a pathological compulsion to lie. Last known whereabouts were Footfall, in the Koronus Expanse. Wanted Dead or Alive.

Lady Janis - Assassin. Wanted for the unlawful murder of several high-ranking seneschals and Dynastic factors. Believed to be working for an unknown Rogue Trader Dynasty, Lady Janis seems to target the agents of other Dynasties. Considered to be lethal and extremely dangerous. Last known whereabouts, Footfall. Wanted Alive for interrogation.

Jakob Huderzo - Arms Dealer. Goes by the nickname of 'Huntz'. Wanted for illegal trafficking of xenos weaponry. Known to specialise in knives and other blades. Huntz has angered Port Wander authorities by establishing a Cold Trade between Footfall and Port Wander. Well known for intruding on private business in order to sell his wares. Last known whereabouts, Footfall. Wanted Alive for questioning.

1st ENDEAVOUR

Albinus

Current Achievment Points: 395 (-50 included)

Grand Endeavour, + 5 Profit Factor (1,500 Achievement Points)

The long-lost Death World of Albinus, discovered by the now vanished Rogue Trader family of the same name, lies somewhere in the ancient stars of the Warp Shoals. Great wealth awaits those bold and fortunate enough to plunder its resources. With the help of the Alid-Yuril Consortium, Albinus must first be found...[/i]

Objective I: Negotiate a Contract and Embark for the Maw (200 Achievement Points - 225)

A contract has been successfully negotiated with the Alid-Yuril Consortium, avoiding any needless loss of profit by House Amphael. The cargo hold of the Invictus Aeterna has been loaded with goods and machinery necessary for the establishment of a harvest colony on Albinus.

Objective II: Journey to Prethian; Locate Albinus (600 Achievement Points - 220

Alid-Yuril will supply the co-ordinates for the irradiated system of Prethian once the Invictus survives the journey through the Koronus Passage. From there, it should be possible to narrow down the possible locations of Albinus, from the records of Rogue Trader Albinus.

Objective III: ?

2nd ENDEAVOUR

Escort

Minor Endeavour, +1 Profit Factor (150 Achievement Points)

Rogue Trader Galen has requested the Amphael dynasty to use the Invictus to escort three Deltael transports to the Kellion system. The mission is only a short diversion from the frigate's primary destination, though Galen is offering an enormous sum of money for the favour.

After a pitched battle with three raider vessel, the escort was successful. No damage was sustained by the transports, and the endeavour is concluded.
