Gene Colan 1926-2011

Post by sgt.null »

Eugene "Gene" Colan (September 1, 1926 – June 23, 2011) was an American comic book artist best known for his work for Marvel Comics, where his signature titles include the superhero series, Daredevil, the cult-hit satiric series Howard the Duck, and The Tomb of Dracula, considered one of comics' classic horror series. He co-created the Falcon, the first African-American superhero in mainstream comics.

Colan was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2005.

He also did a great job drawing Iron Man, Captain Marvel, and Doctor Strange.

Gene Colan was one of my top 5 favorite comic artists.
The notion that we'll never see work from him again sucks.
He will be missed.

Wow. A huge loss.

And he died the same day as Peter Falk??

I know I'm beating a dead horse for anyone who pays attention to my comic tastes, but I am a HUGE Will Eisner fan and it is always great to see someone else honored in the same way that Eisner is being honored for what he has done. Moreover, the illustrations are really excellent. So, congratulations to this amazing comic book artist!
