Ironically enough, Menolly, she was most enthusiastic about the Hulk.
BTW for the rest of everyone just so its clear, I've seen a bajillion chick flicks with my wife and I've only dragged her to about four movies she objected to. Two of them were The Dark Knight (she fell asleep about halfway through) and The Avengers, and the other two... well, they sucked out loud.
But she doesn't have much to complain about... not that that slows her down or anything. But the complaints consist of things like: "I don't want to visit San Francisco again, I'd rather go to Hawaii again," "I don't like the color I picked out for my golf cart" and "can we please buy some jet skis already?!" In other words she's just plain spoiled rotten.

Ron, next time how about sending me and my family to Hawaii? I will regale your wife with stories about our adventures in Nigeria, the finer points of mango worm removal, how to buy a good 20-year old car, what the sound of people getting beat to death is like, how to slip through military blockades without bribing, how to catch rainwater to do laundry, and the best way to kill 2-inch cockroaches. She may not enjoy her vacation much but she'll probably kiss that old golf cart next time she climbs in.
I liked Avengers, even though I got tired of superhero movies some time ago... there was enough interpersonal repartee to keep it interesting. But I don't remember, did Captain America finally get a date?

It hasn't been too long since he was found and revived; he is still in a very reclusive stage and coming to terms with the fact that the world he knew is long gone. Sadly, no, he is not at the point where he has recovered enough to begin dating.deer of the dawn wrote:did Captain America finally get a date?
Technically, this means that he hasn't had a date in 70 years. I would be rusty after that much time, myself. hrm...actually, now that I think about it he has only ever had one date of which we are aware, but the girl who went along with Bucky's girlfriend to the World's Fair wasn't very interested in him.
I don't recall that Captain America had any steady girlfriend in the comic books, either, only random dates from time to time. Sgt. Null could probably confirm or deny that.
edit: I think we are supposed to understand that Black Widow's grandmother was Lt. Carter. The good Captain isn't as quick on the mental draw as others so he hasn't figured that out yet and Fury hasn't told him (on purpose, I am certain).

That's awesome, I never put that together. BTW, and I hate to break it to the fanboys, but it appears that Captain America is rapidly becoming the underground gay icon of the superhero movie genre. At least until they make a movie about Shazam.Hashi Lebwohl wrote:edit: I think we are supposed to understand that Black Widow's grandmother was Lt. Carter. What? A good-looking man who isn't involved with a woman has to be homosexual? I suppose some people really are that shallow and define everything in terms of sexual orientation. *roll eyes*Ron Burgunihilo wrote:I hate to break it to the fanboys, but it appears that Captain America is rapidly becoming the underground gay icon of the superhero movie genre. C'mon Hashi, you have to admit that CA keeps himself extraordinarily well groomed, not to mention having a rather flamboyant fashion sense when it comes to dressing for combat. And he was less interested in his date than in enlisting in the Army, where once transformed into a superhero he spent months wearing tights in the theater without molesting the chorus girls even once... oh I think there are some flames beneath all that smoke...Hashi Lebwohl wrote:What? Was that not Agent 13 who was her sister or neice or something? Black Widow is a Romanov (possibly of THE Romanovs), born in Russia.Hashi Lebwohl wrote:It hasn't been too long since he was found and revived; he is still in a very reclusive stage and coming to terms with the fact that the world he knew is long gone. Movie continuity and comic continuity are not the same thing.finn wrote:Was that not Agent 13 who was her sister or neice or something? Black Widow is a Romanov (possibly of THE Romanovs), born in Russia.
I don't recall if the Black Widow of the comics was supposed to be from the Romanov line, but I guess that all depends upon if Anastasia survived in the Marvel world.

Even so, Carter is a wholesome all american gal and Romanov 100% Russian...... must be some wierd storyline especially as the BW is supposed to have extended life/youth (which makes the avaialble time for such a story to happen even less!).

Finally saw this movie. I had a lot of fun. Tons of great action scenes is really all I need; it was also nice to get an introduction to the Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye and Black Widow (I hadn't seen any of their previous films, let alone read any comics they showed up in). The first action scene, with Black Widow, was probably my favorite in the movie, though most/all others were good too.
There was this girl he saved during the big battle at the end of the movie who later got a slightly larger shot than the other people thanking the Avengers in those TV report screens at the end of the movie. My bro was wondering if she might show up in the next movie in such a capacity.did Captain America finally get a date?

At least Whedon has been brought back for Avengers 2. Branagh is not directing Thor 2 so even though Christopher Eccelston will be the villain--the dark elf Malekith the Accursed (I can hardly wait)--the movie won't have the same feel as the first one. *sigh* I hope it isn't a complete let-down, though.

I thought Branagh did a superb job in Thor, not just visualising the realms and creating Asgard, but in the photography which took the odd agled perspectives in comic frames and using these to enhance the 3D apsects (or vice versa perhaps). He did this again with his perspectives which shot 'down' streets rather than at oblique angles, a technique often used to compensate for a lack of depth in the image. It was 'smart' filming using the 3D medium to great effect whilst managing not to be gratuitous with it.
