My vote would go for Dread Poet Jethro, if he was competing, but, since he's not, I vote for Menolly

DPJ.

Wait, whaddya mean he's not one of the finalists? 8O

Oh fine. I'll vote for SD, since he did a better job of sticking to the "ode" form. But both were good. 8)

...well, that's debatable, nu?

but DPJ's so called entry isn't in ode form at all, according to way's definition.

Well, I didn't expect the choice to be easy - when was it? I vote for Menolly, the idea was really unusual and unexpected.

If we want to get
That particular about
What Wayfriend's defined...
In the rules post for The Test of the Tentacle, esteemed Wayfriend wrote:Each Survivor must write an ode to the tentacle, such as Shetra might have composed as she was dragged under the water.

An ode (for the purposes of this test) is a poem written in an elevated, dignified manner - the way the people of the Land are wont to speak. It is written to express one's feelings about an object or an event, and relates those feelings to some high, abstract ideal. (One can easilly imagine what Shetra might have been feeling at that time!) An ode can have any rhyming scheme one chooses. However, it should have three sections/verses: the strophe, the antistrophe, and the epode. The strophe and the antistrophe have the same rhyming scheme, and the epode has a different one. There is no length requirement. Examples of "Pindaric" odes abound on the internet; please avail yourself of your favorite search engine.

The title of your ode must be Ode to the Tentacle which has Caught Me.

Contestants will be judged based on humor, wit, ode lore, and knowledge of tentacular biology.
No, I'm not playing
Nor can I cast a vote here

While SD's entry looks more like an Ode than Menolly, I have to vote for Menolly, for sheer hilarity.

Difficult choice! If I have to choose it is SD.

I'll give you guys a few more days to pimp the vote. How's Thursday sound for closing voting? I'd like to get some bigger numbers in here, but then again, can't wait forever.

It's time to Announce the Champion!
  • Image

For the sake of his Vow, Korik said to the Lord, "The lurker is not dead. It has only been cut back here. We must go on."

"Go?" Hyrim said. "Go on? Shetra is dead. How can I go on?"

    The Bloodguard had no answer.

As the steersmen thrust the raft out into the center of the Defiles Course, Lord Hyrim murmured to himself, "This is not the end. There will be pain and death to humble this. Hyrim son of Hoole, you are a coward."

    Then the mission was gone.
Here is how I tally the votes:
Spoiler
Menolly ... : 5
Savor Dam: 7
All of which means that the following person has been voted off of the island:
Spoiler
Menolly!
That Survivor walks away with total winnings in cash and prizes of: 1,000 WGD.

Which means that our champion survivor is:
Spoiler
Savor Dam! ! ! ! !
That Survivor walks away with the grand prize of: 10,000 WGD.

Let's congratulate all the Survivors!

Let's congatulate the voters for helping make this contest happen!

And let's congatulate the vote pimps!

(The winner was runner up in the previous Survivor contest. Such a victory must be that much sweeter.)

(I voted for SavorDam. He rhymed "Cerrin" with something. I think that kind of thing is underappreciated. :))

Thank you, Wayfriend.
Thank you, fellow Surviviors - Menolly, Effy, ali, and ebony.
Thank you, voters and poetic gadflies who refuse to vote.

Quite apart from making it through the swamp (presumably soon to reach the shore of the Sunbirth Sea...), I have to look back with pride at the writing all of us did throughout this game. Whether selecting SRD quotes about Giants, weaving cartoon characters into the Last Chronicles, crafting limericks about Quagmire, tweeting the Illearch War, or just writing odious poetry (DPJ - Cerrin gas? Really??), we all stretched our creative abilities. Good stuff!

Oh, and Way was right. Menolly will end up with the WGD anyway. As I have said before, every WGD on the Watch eventually ends up either with her or with CMJ.

I should change the contest name to Win Menolly Money maybe?

Menolly, how long until you have the white gold?

And BTW, everyone is welcome.
