Has it been decided yet whether to film the chronicles yet ?

Post by feanor »

Hi Guys...

It's been sooo long. Sorry for not being around.

I started to re-read the original chronicles the other day, after a LONG gap and got to wondering, since we've had highly technical films like Avatar and The Hobbit presented to us over the years, has any decision on whether to attempt a screenplay been made yet ? or will the chronicles never be ? I think ( and hope) that obviously that they can, (and should be !). I think that all it requires is the comittment of a good enuff actor to play TC, and that the rape of Lena isn't dwelt upon either for too long, or too graphically, but enuff to make the point of TCs midemeanor and its Consequences. The Bloodguard can wear briefs and everything else is pretty much (and I don't mean this in a derogatory way of course) your standard Sci-Fi. Thinking of all the Digital effects possible Nowadays, I can only dribble at what could be done with the Elohim for example, and the ravers ! what a trio of baddies ! And we'd need an actor of stature for Mhoram, and I think TCOTC could be a blockbusting hit without having to compromise the material too much.

Sorry if you've all done this to death, but I couldn't find it in my search. I'd love to know what you all think now, and if your Ideas about a Hexology (?) have changed.

See you soon, Stu. Thanks for keeping the site alive !

We used to have a forum for Chrons movie talk, but I think it got folded into something else during the reorganization.

The short answer is no. Whatever option the Hollywood types had to film the Chrons fell through. Looks like we're stuck with Fantasy Bedtime Hour as the definitive cinematic treatment of LFB.

I've gotta tell ya, though -- after seeing a bit of Game of Thrones, I wouldn't worry too much about any depiction of Lena's rape being too graphic. 8O

Ayup Aliantha...

So it's dead in the water then. A shame.

I saw on the Covenant wiki in the 'other' category that James Nicoll said that Thomas Covenant would win a "special lifetime achievement award" for the "most unlikeable supposedly sympathetic protagonist". which is, after all, the point isn't it ? He's not called 'The Unbeliever' for nothing, is he ? He's as far away from a 'hollywood Hero' ' as one is likely to be. But that for me makes his redemption even more powerful and actually worth something. When he delivers the Dead of Seareach in the Caamora its just sooo powerful. Much more than any 'Damaged' Hollywood cop could do.

And as for Game of thrones my friend, I only ever watched five minutes of the whole thing. And I thought it was extremely crap. something to turn the telly off and pick a book up for ! what a pity this thread is going to be very short !

I suppose I can dream...

Hi feanor! Good to see you around again!

As ali said, we've going through a bit of a shake-up and reorganisation here and in the process the Chronicles movie forum got folded into the 1st and 2nd Chronicles forum. If you scroll down through the threads you'll see the movie-related ones. You can also do a search with 'Chronicles + movie' and you should get some of the threads. Here're a few that I picked up with a quick glance through the forum:

In our recent discussion about the direction of the Watch we came up with a number of ideas and suggestion about how to promote and sustain the forum. Have a look at it and if you have any suggestions yourself please feel free to add them in.

We've been encouraging current members to visit and post more frequently and to promote the site through word-of-mouth, posting links to it on Facebook, in blog posts, in comments etc. Let people know that while we do discussion of SRD's work brilliantly, we also do lots of other stuff really well: general fantasy and sci-fi, literature, writing, politics, games, sports, music etc. So, it'd be great if you could spread the word and encourage people to join the Watch (and read the books! ).

Ayup Ussusmiel...

Thanks for the Howdy again. I'll have a look at those Linkys and give the forum a shout on my FB page too. great to see you've kept the faith. I was looking earlier at an old 'Who should play TC' thread, and was gobsmacked with how many folks chose Hugh Laurie. Obviously we Brits think of Jeeves and Wooster and Blackadder, and the Americans think of him as House. very Interesting indeed. what i need to do is imagine him as TC and see how it goes. TBH, I always saw myself as him which wouldn't quite work as I'm a Ginge, and I''ve a physique more like Trell... but hey, that's what the mind does.

I personally think maybe Willem Defoe myself with his looks and potential Anger quotient. (watch the original Spiderman at his Green Goblin) I don't think the actor has to be Covenants exact age myself, and I don't think he has to be foaming all the while. Just has to do Sarcastic (all the time) very well.

Good to be back though. See you all around.

See! He couldn't find it! :P

Nice to see you around again Feanor. :D Hugh Laurie will always conjure Blackadder for me too. :D

(U...better watch out...we usually punish attitudes like that by making people mods. ;) )
