fwiw..grass stain metaphor =the promise...Linden's promise that she would find an answer to Wildwoods worry about when there were no more protectors...The Grass Stains are like reminders..a string tied around a finger so you don't forget,,,The grass stains are like, the Land reminding Linden of her commitment to the land, its beauty....Wildwood removed the reminder cuz she had lived up to her committment..the adamantcy(spl) of the ur-Mahrtir.....imho.
If she withdrew from exaltation, she would be forced to think- And every thought led to fear and contradictions; to dilemmas for which she was unprepared.
