When I was a teenager I saw, from a distance, a guy slap his girlfriend across the face when they were having an argument in a busy shopping mall.
I had gotten to know her a little because she worked at the coffee shop next to my work.
I wanted to go over and yell at him but he was a pretty big guy and I would have gotten my ass kicked.
They both stormed off in opposite directions and I went back to work.
They seemed pretty happy together a few days later so who knows what was up with that slap.
Anyway, I should have said something but didn't.

When I was a kid from age 5 to 16 this little old (I mean that literally she must have been in her 70s or 80s was 5 feet tall and weighed probably 90lbs) Italian lady, Mrs. D, owned a tiny convenience store near my house.
To this day I can count to 10 in Italian because she would count back my change in Italian!
One day when I was about 10 I walked in and found a big roll of bills on the floor by the counter.
I didn't think twice, I gave it to Mrs. Dee and asked her if it was hers.
She came around the from behind the counter with tears in her eyes and gave me a kiss because that was the money she was going to pay her bills with and she had been looking all over for it.
A few years later I was in there with my Mom and Mrs. D made sure to retell that story to her.
She was a good lady.

Guys (or people in general) like this may be big on the outside but are pretty darn small on the inside. The best thing that could happen to him is to run into a girlfriend who can kick his a**. There are a few out there!High Lord Tolkien wrote:When I was a teenager I saw, from a distance, a guy slap his girlfriend across the face when they were having an argument in a busy shopping mall.

And it would seem that you were a good kid. Growing up in the days before large chain grocery stores drove them out of business, we had a very small grocery store on the corner by my house. It was owned by an older Polish gentleman who lived upstairs from the store. (The store was actually the first floor of a small house.) My mother did all her grocery shopping there. Grateful for her business he always gave me a small bag full of candy after I had carried all the bags of groceries home. Man that was a different era (does that make me sound old?). Anyway he was a very kind person as well.High Lord Tolkien wrote:She was a good lady.

Okay, how about: Small Acts of Indifference
Small Acts of Indifference are perpetrated by virtually everyone, everywhere throughout the world. More often than "Small Acts of Courage" more familiar than "Small Acts of Cowardice" and certainly more frequent than "Small Acts of Kindness". SMAI can be shared by the majority and not only those few who break with the status quo and perform some act that is out of the norm for a typical moment in time.
The fact of the matter is that by creating this thread I've violated the point and topic of this discussion and that is to not give a crap.

I can't tell you how many times in the Mall or Wal-Mart I've seen a Mother or Father (I'm guessing they were parents but I was too much of a coward to ask) absolutely pummel a little kid. I did nothing except wince.
I've been cut in line by larger, more powerful humans and have just let it go. Coward!
I've ordered from fast food restaurants that have totally gotten things wrong and have just quietly eaten whatever I've been given (or not given) without throwing a fit. Coward! Or at least LAZY!

Today I was told that one of the printers at work isn't really working too well.
I was told in such a way that it was left open whether or not it was up to me or someone else to do anything about it.
I'm going to ignore the issue.

Oh yeah, aTOMiC, you just reminded me.
I was waiting in line at a convenience store and the guy in front of me was swearing in front of his young children.
I should have said something!
There was not the slightest bit of danger on my part.
I would have really enjoyed verbally beating this guy down and would have done it cleanly in front of the kids but I just wimped out for some reason.
