Thank you, I've seen the thread linked here, and I'll look for the other one, doesn't appear to be a problem.
And to the topic - in a way, this thread could fit here, and in the Galley, and in Close. After all, the Close is for philosophy as well, and some of the tasty things mentioned here awake not only hunger but also some thoughts.
Well, more like quite some thoughts , but still

Menolly will have to answer that because I have yet to sample Dick's tasty meat treats...
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....

Well, Waddley (an actual Seattle resident) could probably answer as well or better than a Floridian who tried Dicks once this past Monday -- as reported a few pages upthread.
The Dicks Deluxe Menolly had was a 1/4 lb burger, juicy in the middle, but cooked far more than her preference. It came on a plain white bun that was fresh and soft, but was otherwise entirely unremarkable. Plain processed cheese, mayo, chopped pickle and lettuce came with the burger; she requested onion, mustard and catsup, which came on the side and were $0.05 apiece.
As she said in her post, it was something to experience once.

Oh, lorin, you need not pine for a substandard fast-food burger joint. Seattle and the great NorthWet has so much more to offer!

Sarge, you ask this of Cameraman Jenn, knowing her record of working with unclothed talent who perform in beds?
Anyway, to return to the nominal topic...
Having taken Menolly to lunch at Dicks last Monday, I wanted to get a little...comparison from another establishment recommended earlier in this thread. Ali, whose opinion I value, had spoken well of Five Guys, as had the reviewers on Serious Eats. I had not thought this chain had made it to Greater Seattle, but I was mistaken.
Dam-sel and I lunched at the Five Guys in Marysville today, each having a one-patty bacon cheeseburger and an iced tea, plus a shared order of fries. Not bad; way better than Dicks, but my opinion is that In-N-Out's stock Double-Double is still the best fast food burger...and ordering it Animal Style takes it to another level entirely. Of course, you can follow the example of the Mistress of Excess and go 4x4 at In-N-Out, but that's a bit too much for me.
The burger itself was quite good and the bun fairly standard. Where Five Guys exceeded Dicks and fell short of In-N-Out was in the produce.
With no In-N-Out yet in Washington, I will be trying Five Guys again, I am sure...and will offer a visit there to Menolly when she next comes West.

- Dicks puts mayo, chopped pickle and lettuce on their burger. Period. If you want onion, they will sell you a condiment cup of chopped raw onion for a nickle. Whoop-de-doo.
Five Guys offers a considerable array of condiments, all at no additional charge. Lettuce, tomato, onions (grilled or raw), grilled mushrooms, peppers, as well as all the usual mustard / catsup / mayo choices. I went with lettuce, tomato and grilled onion to most closely match what an In-N-Out burger would have.
In-N-Out has all the above choices except the mushrooms, but where their produce stands out is in freshness. Where Five Guys had a smattering of torn lettuce leaves (as if from a bag of prepared salad lettuce), In-N-Out has hand-leafed lettuce portions that taste much fresher and add a satisfying crunch. Their tomato also consistently tastes fresher than what was on the Five Guys burger today.
With no In-N-Out yet in Washington, I will be trying Five Guys again, I am sure...and will offer a visit there to Menolly when she next comes West.
