Didya notice, SD, that Five Guys always posts on their board their supplier for the day's potatoes? Try 'em with the malt vinegar next time. I always split open my paper bag, dump out the fries onto the bag, and sprinkle malt vinegar on a few fries at a time (so all of the malt taste doesn't soak into the fry before I get to eat it). Mmmmm baby!

I agree that their buns aren't anything special. But the fresh hamburger (not frozen patties) and fresh fries (not coated with the-gods-know-what and then frozen) go a long way to make up for it. Plus I loves me some grilled onions and shrooms on my burger.

I always get a "little hamburger" with everything, and a "small" order of fries. For the uninitiated, "little hamburger" is the name on the menu -- it's one patty instead of two. "Small" is in quotes for the fries because a "small" at Five Guys is at least twice the size of a medium order of McDonald's fries.

We know the trick of dumping the cup of fries onto the bag to soak up the excess oil. It helps immensely, although the fries do lose their heat faster that way.

While I have long used malt vinegar with fries when having fish...for some reason I have not made the leap to doing so with a burger. Need to make that paradigm shift!
