WHAT??? WHAT??? Ok, Rigel, you can date as long as she knows we have plans for an affair.

Well, Jenn, she seems really cool, but is applying for jobs with the EPA in DC and in Albuquerque. She'll hear about both in the next two weeks, but it sounds like she has a really good shot at them; if she gets one of those, then our plans won't be affected

On the other hand, if she stays here in Portland, she plays the violin (!), she follows politics (!) and likes the description "Compassionate Rationalism" (!) (btw, I think I heard that term from somebody here: thanks whoever you are, it really fits me ), reads fantasy for fun (!!!), and obviously plays scrabble (!!!!!).

Not to mention she's cute as a button
But... but.... I read fantasy for fun, I'm a heck of a scrabble player and rock out the sudoku, I like the term compassionate rationalism, I'm cute as a.... badger maybe, and although I don't follow politics religiously I do vote....

Ok fine. I won't begrudge you this one....

Ali, don't tell Rigel I'm crossing my fingers AND toes hoping she gets the DC job....

Your secret is safe with me, Jenn!
Jaz -- forgot to tell you -- best of luck to Mr. Jaz! 8)

Menolly -- yeah, I would give it more than just a couple of days before giving up an application as a lost cause.

Sarge -- Magickmaker and I have read "Wicked", altho I don't think she finished it. (Coulda whacked her for that. The ending was what made the story worthwhile for me. ) She has *two* copies of the second book but neither of us has read it. And I guess there's a third as well. So many books to read, so little time....

Oh, and SD, thanks for the Webelos explanation. Always wondered what that stood for.

As per the reading conversation above, I sure hope I can get to the point of reading War and Peace. I got it (asked and ye shall receive) it from my neighbors.

Other than that...man the internet is really a place I should stay off of given the fear it gives me...I will just say that there was a really hot woman giving me the look today, maybe the first time ever. She might have been faking but god did it make me feel good to be alive.

A good day. I took it off. I saw Peter Gabriel last night at Summerfest in Milwaukee. Different. He had arranged his new works and many old ones for orchestra. Most of them worked, though In Your Eyes was a notable exception. There were other acts that were worth paying for last night. Hall & Oates was on the stage behind us and occasionally the sound bled in. We caught the end of Meat Loaf's set. He did a great version of Freebird. Buddy Guy was also there last night, though we didn't get around to him.

ARRRRRRGH!!!!!

So my husband waited for a phone call today which never came. Apparently the hiring coordinator forgot to mention the call was going to be through WebEx, so they have to reschedule.

I'm going to tear every last inch of hair from my head. It's been about a month now since they said, "We'd like to interview you".

And it's not even MY effing job.

Hang in there, Jaz. It's a tough market for everyone right now, meaning HR departments can afford to jerk applicants around.

For myself, I spent the afternoon moving furniture around our branch. We managed to get it done before the manager got back in :D Things should be more organized now, but my back's a little sore (I was extremely careful about my posture, so nothing dangerous, just good old fashioned sore muscles).

AUGH! Sarge, make Julie better NOW!!!

Jaz, it's gonna be ok.

Lorin, so, helldog is part chow. Gorgeous.

Ok, my day. It wasn't anything super special. Ashlee got back from her vacation and I knew I wasn't in any trouble since when I walked in and waved at her in her office while she was on the phone she gave me a big grin and enthusiastic wave. I think others might have gotten in trouble including my nemesis as he was in a meeting with her for a bit just after I arrived. Anyway, Did some merchandise resets, one of which was awful as none of the brackets they sent with the setup actually worked so I had to improvise and luckily I'm used to that with the OD crap so I have a secret stash of spare parts from other improvisations. Anyway, the day was pretty normal, especially when another manager asked me to do the monthly alarm test since he forgot again so I agreed. I called the alarm company to let them know I needed to put the alarm in test mode and they informed me that I no longer had the authority to do so. I have been doing that for over a year now between this store and my old one. I tried desperately to get in touch with Seth and Ashlee and couldn't get either one and it's the last day of the month so we get in trouble if it doesn't happen. I broke down and called my nemesis. He agreed to call and then made sure to inform me three times that I needed to leave a note for Ashlee that he needed to be paid another hour for working from home. I was like, "WHAAT???" I'm a little pissed, now I am responsible for giving him another hour of overtime because he had to take my two minute phone call explaining how to put the alarm into test mode and because he had to call the alarm company and make it happen. HE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO DO IT BECAUSE HE HAS NEVER DONE IT BEFORE!!! And this guy is an assistant manager and getting paid WAY more than me and I have to walk him through ass mgr basics???? Had I known it would go down that way I would have NEVER called him and would have done my usual flirting with the LP guy and talking him into NOT docking us for points for stuff like I do EVERY audit. Yeesh....

jenn - unfortunate but she is going to work tomorrow. her boss has the day off so someone has to show. i am unhappy about that. she is on antibiotics.

do you know why you can't do the alarm anymore?

my job i am trusted with the captains keys if i have a good reason. i have to get a major or above to give them to me. but i only ask for them when i need them.

the interim captain who was at the current unit was complaining about people getting 'her' office keys one time. complaining about others who were doing it - but not me - and i did it more than everyone else involved combined.

basically i have much authority and responsibility as i'm willing to take on. i have no fear of hard decisions because i can always back them up.

sometime in private i will tell you jenn, of the last person who tried to get me in trouble at work.

I'm sure the alarm thing has to do with the fact that we have recently nationally switched alarm companies and we were one of the first stores to have the switch done and so they probably did a national security reset once all stores were online with the new system (email came out about the alarm changeover being finished nationally approximately two weeks ago but nothing about security level changes). Believe me, I am NOT worried about my job security or anything like that. It was just frustrating since I've done this so many times before without a problem. It's actually most likely a good thing in the long run as I would not have known if it hadn't happened so I can have Ashlee fix it tomorrow and let our upper management know so they can fix it before anyone else runs into a problem like mine.
