IRON MAN REVIEWS: The Tomatometer at 93% Fresh (Positive)

That was a fun movie. I won't go into it in detail, but besides all the numerous one-liners Downey delivered, there were 2 laugh-out-loud moments I'm still chuckling over. The last one was to die for.

But the post-credits clip was a different experience for me. I barely read comics as a kid, so I'm not up on the background stuff. I found it very amusing as the credits ended, and the large portion of the audience that remained began shushing each other as the clip started. But that paled in comparison to the applause and overall buzz when it ended.

Marvel has outdone themselves with this movie, and the expectations for the future. I hope they can live up to them.

I saw the movie this afternoon with Hyperception and Beorn. Not being familiar with the comic, the set-up in Afghanistan seemed long to me, but it also seemed pretty well done.

Although I guessed at the betrayal right away.

Hyperception and Beorn seemed to appreciate the explanation of how the suit came to be much more than I did.

Once the set-up was past, I enjoyed the rest of the story, and appreciated the occasional comedic bits that occured in the development of the second and third versions. We always sit through the credits, but because of y'all we particularly stayed. The extra scene flew right over my head, but Hyperception and Beorn were both saying "YES!!" and "alright!" during it. Thankfully I started txting First during the credits (I had muted the ringer) and he explained enough for me to sort of understand.

So yeah...if you read the comics I guess it is something to get excited about.

As far as the movie itself goes, I knew about as much going in as I did for X-Men, Fantastic 4, and Dare Devil. The story and acting of this movie held my attention much better than any of them, and I had enjoyed Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan in X-Men.

Just got back from seeing it. I thought it was good, but I wasn't really blown away by it. Maybe it's because I only had a minor understanding of the character before coming into the movie and I never read the comics.

Best Parts: Some really, *really*, funny parts (I didn't expect to laugh out loud) and no TEEN ANGST (aka Spiderman).

I'm going to the first showing at 10am this morning. I didn't think I'd get the chance to go until next weekend but my wife and daughter took pitty on me (I couldn't help but yak endlessly about it whenver I got the chance). We're leaving in half an hour. Yipppeeee!

Very good movie. Honestly, I can't think of a single thing to complain about . . . except maybe Gwyneth Paltrow. I can't believe she's a movie star. She has no charisma whatsoever. She just sleepwalks through her roles. I could have done without hearing her worry about her pits stinking. She was unappealing already without that detail.

But Downey was amazing. He really whipped himself into shape for this movie. He actually has some muscles!

Was the original comic book character a liberal anti-war peacenik? I found that an odd twist in a superhero movie. I guess superman did the same thing in Superman 4. And the idea sucked back then, too. Superheros are supposed to kick ass, not embody a thinly veiled anti-American foreign policy rant.

Ok, I suppose that's two things to complain about. But other than Paltrow's pits and liberal propaganda, good film!

I litterally can't wait to go again. AWESOME!
I don't remember having that much fun with a Super hero movie. In my opinion they really hit one out of the park. Yes I stayed till the end and saw the tag clip.

I just got back from the cinema myself... I completely agree with you

If they already are planning to release IM2 in 2010, it won't be soon enough!

I was reading on SSH that the movie has already earned about $201, between domestic and international profits... it's now ranked as the 10th best opening of all time!

If this is a sample of what Marvel will release now that they're producing their own movies... !!!

Not only a great movie, not only the greatest movie ever set in the Marvel Universe, easily one of the greatest comic book adaptations of all time.

(Rivals include, Ghost World, Sin City, V for Vendetta, Batman Begins. Iron Man ranks with them.)

Hopefully you are up to speed now.

I so wanted to turn right around and go back in for another go but that was asking too much. I'll go back soon though.

My wife and I were talking about the film all the way home and it got us discussing superhero movies in general. We decided to spend the rest of the day watching all three X-men films back to back. (I'd never done that before.) I began to remember what little things about all three of those films I had problems with (especially X-3) and then it hit me. I couldn't think of a single thing wrong with Iron man.
In Spiderman I remember thinking that I didn't like the Green Goblin's costume and there was too much use of CGI and no matter how much I watched the film Kirsten Dunst just wasn't the Mary Jane I wanted to see. With comparisons like these I have to admit that it takes a pretty tremendous effort to make me 100% happy with a film.

Just got back.
Super good flick. Downey performed his ASS off, and really pulled the tricks out of the bag. He WAS Iron Man. Was also able to downplay his role as well in a few situations, and make it believable.
I didn't like that there was only one major fight scene, and only three in the movie total, but I went into the movie expecting it as it is the first in a series.
But particularly, I didn't like that Gwennyth Paltrow effectively jerked my attention away from the middle of the main fight to jabber on a cell phone. URGH.
The CGI was fantastic, and totaly believable.

Overall: 80-85%

I enjoyed it. The best moment for me was at about the 50 minute mark, when Stark's getting back from the desert and there's a nice happy scene. The woman right behind me who came in with another guy and two kids five minutes into the movie, ate popcorn at full volume non-stop (why do you need to shake the bag??), and let their kid babble through the whole movie says, completely seriously, "Is that the end?"

But yeah, I can't think of anything about this movie I didn't like. I kind of agree with Malik on the Paltrow bit, and I would've liked to see more about why

The whole ice/altitude thing didn't work. I mean, all you see is him plummet to the ground. Then he just shows back up saying 'nice try.'

A little more destruction would've been nice, too. But those are just kind of preference things, not criticisms.

WOW! Just WOW! As a major DD freak I would rather die than say that that movie was a piece of crap-but compared to Iron Man it was!! Frickin' awesome. I could have done without Paltrow's line, but I kind of liked her, kinda "Moneypennyish" gave it a Bond feel.

I agree it was the best Marvel flick to date. Downey was at his best, too. A couple minor things, though like a cell phone on a classified Watch Floor?! Come on, let's have a bit of reality here.

I didn't see the post credit clip, cause I was on a trip and saw it by myself (which I hate), so when the clowns turned up the lights at the beginning of the credits, I left forgetting about post credit clip, dang it.
