I for one am not surprised that there have been negative reviews for TCW. Anyone that doesn't see that this film is an easy way to make a few bucks and promote the cartoon series, and not much else, is just expecting way too much. It's not episode VII and there very likely will never be.
However. The idea of following Vader as he hunts down the remaining Jedi is a very interesting notion. I'd love to see DV go around wasting Jedi but eventually run afoul of some previously unmentioned jedi badass that kicks his ass and has to be dealt with in a more unconventional way. That would be awesome!

Heh. I read the book of Episode 3 after you kept raving about it. It was a fairly mediocre book (except the fight with Dooku - that was done well) but a lot better than the film.Fist and Faith wrote:kevinswatch wrote:I mean, it should be impossible to screw up a universe where people fight with blades of friggen light.Well said!
Anyway, the first two Clone Wars cartoons are very good, and some of the episodes are excellent.
Also, as is always the case, the books for Eps 1-3 are much better than the movie. Ep 3 is a freakin' fantastic book! But even parts of Ep 2 are great. I mean, with no Force ability at all, Jango Fett fights off a pretty competent Jedi. Jango is an extraordinary fighter.
The comic books of the ancient Sith Wars were great stuff too. I had so hoped that's what would end up being followed in the movies.
As for Jango... I have a soft spot for him because he's a Mandalorian, but I don't think he came across that well.

Y'know, I took to reading 3/4ths of the books for Episode 2 & 3 before the movies came out. The books did really get me excited for the movies. Too bad that they didn't come close to living up to that. I was really hoping to see Uncle Owen's daddy lose his legs (not to mention the decapitations) in the tripwire that the Tusken Raiders set. It was a nasty little scene in the book, and would have brought some much needed darkness to the movie. At least they carried through with some of that darkness in Ep. 3 on film.

I say again: darkness = Knights of the Old Republic 2. Darth Nihilus is more sinister than anything in the canon Star Wars.

We saw TCW yesterday and I really liked it, although I freely admit that it's possible that I'm so hungry for more Star Wars that I'm willing to overlook any flaws. But I thought that the story was actually pretty good and the battle scenes were excellent. My biggest complaint was the animation particularly of faces (especially anyone with a beard.)
