Yeah, he acted out of despair. My stance was that his despair came from the fact that he had no possibility of saving all that he loved. Or, at least it was
possible that that's where his despair came from. It could be that his despair came from weakness. But it was much more fun to argue about it.
But Mhoram is the best, because he was not capable of despair, even if he had no possibility of saving all that he loved. He
would hold to his love for it, even if there was nothing of value left
other than that love.
