Hey Baradakas, welcome to the Watch. Anyway, just to bring things back on topic, when this was brought up before, I remember we talked about how we thought that the Lysol reference was to the whole Pure One thing. It even inspired me to make this silly image a while ago. Hehe.-jay

It's alot more confusing when people expect you to understand the in jokes because you've been around a few months, but they are refering to something that happened a year and a half ago.

Lysol is a popular aerosol disinfectant spray made in America. :)

I just used the search option, 'cause I didn't want to start a new topic if one was already there, all I could find was this one!!!

SRD sort of answered the Lysol question in the GI:

thinbudha: Greetings, and thank you for some of my favorite books.

I have a question about Lysol- I think that I remember reading once about how an unfortunate encounter you once had with a can of Lysol led to inspiration for one of your books- or a passage- or something(?)

Am I crazy- I can't find this anywhere. Perhaps I had my own unfortunate incident with Lysol, and am imagining the whole thing? Can you enlighten me?

I think you’ll be able to find your answer now that we’re adding a word-search tool to the Gradual Interview. (I leave it to my readers to answer my webmaster’s question: is the GI “upper” or “lower”?) But briefly: the scene in “The Power that Preserves” where Lena and a Ranyhyn save Covenant from Pietten’s betrayal came to me while I was reading a Lysol disinfectant can in a truck-stop men’s room.

(11/09/2004)

I couln't find any more about it in the GI, although I myself asked the question back in October, but was never answered :(

Not having a twenty year old can of Lysol handy, I reread that chapter over and over again, trying to guess the connection.

Was the scene inspired by something SRD read on the can, or did it just come into his head at the same time?

Well, I hope that everyone is feeling better, now that we've ALL got some of the paranoia out fo our systems.:D As to the Lysol, Did SRD actually use the words 'one of the most influetial parts of the story' (or something like that) If not, i would pick the overall realization TC has when he accepts the Leprosy and decides to bring down Fouls Creche. If Yes, the i would have to pick the scene when the People, Lords, and Hirebrands of Revelstone fight back against the 'stench' infecting its stone.

My money was on the jheherrin - you know, truck stop toilet, muddy, brown squishy things that talk to you, spraying the air to make it Pure...

I don't get the whole dispute with Baradakas.. Did I miss something? Why not just give him a Test of Truth and be done with it?
