Also, if he wants to learn, I'm being taught how to use a straight razor.... :D

Honestly, perhaps you should leave it to Paul. Talk it over with Paul and see how he feels about it all.

Why not an electric razor?
I thought you were a ripe grape
a cabernet sauvignon
a bottle in the cellar
the kind you keep for a really long time

That's true. Especially if he doesn't want a beard.

I assumed that a beard was in order.

I've always shaved against the grain, I find that I get a closer shave that way. You just need to take your time and use a good shaving gel.

I've never used an electric worth a damn.

Straight razors are nice, but impractical for daily shaving (like when you wake up late and have 10 minutes to s, s, and s).

Balon wrote:The one really important thing to remember is to shave with the grain of your beard. After that, don't press to hard, it might take a couple of passes, but that's how it works. Otherwise your asking to get cut.

Aftershave and shacing cream is optional depending on the person. I've never used either, and never had any problems, but my brother uses shaving cream. Without it, he bleeds like a stuck pig.

That help?
Argh. Shaving has always been a bitch for me. I have really tough, thick facial hair (runs in the family) and really sensitive skin (also runs in the family). Shaving with or against the grain makes little difference, since I cut myself without removing the hair whichever way I do it. I once even cut myself to ribbons with an electric. I've discovered that the best I can hope for is stubble reduction (rather than a clean shave) and for this purpose an electric is best, because I'm less likely to draw blood.

Heh! My last boyfriend was waaaay into straight razors. Nearly obsessed, was he. Belonged to a straight razor/shaving forum, and dreamed of going to the UK to go to Geo. Trumper's shaving school. True story. He was indeed obsessed with shaving and hygiene.

As for me, I do shave EVERY DAY without exception. I like to be very smooth. The extra time in the shower is worth it to me.

I was going to say something else, but then thought about it and realized this was a family forum. 8O  ;)

Well, you could always PM those thoughts to some of us...

...me.

I use a plain old hand held razor; but I only shave twice a week.
I use old fashioned Shaving cream in a cup with a brush...and I've never used after-shave (I don't like smelling) Once in a while, if I need it I'll use rubbing alcohol in it's stead.

I hate it when I'm unable to shave for 3 or 4 days (usually cos I can't be bothered to go and buy a new razor) and my facial hair gets to that really horrible, awkward length. It looks like shit AND really hurts to shave off.
It'd take you a long time to blow up or shoot all the sheep in this country, but one diseased banana...could kill 'em all.

I didn't even know sheep ate bananas.

You're still close enough to being illegal that it would seem just wrong to tell you. Sorry. ;)
