In Die Hard films, it's always about the money.

Yeah, it isn't the first film (or the third), but it's still damn good. No it's not as gritty as Rambo, but Die Hard films were never like that. All four movies have had ridiculous, over-the-top stunts (jumping off a building with a hose tied around his waist, surviving 10 guys shooting into an unarmored plane then ejecting out of it while on the ground, surviving the bridge-to-ship cable crawl), and this one wasn't that different (but the plane thing really pushed it. Gabriel was no Hans or Simon Gruber (or Col.Stuart for that matter). I'll grant you, the villain was weak.

But I'll take LFoDH over any other action movie made in the last 10 years (except Rambo0 without hesitation.

Cail, I think you hit the nail on the head. I, too, would take DH4 over just about any action movie of the past decade. And that makes me sad. What happened to this genre? The best moment in the movie (besides the badass "yippee kiya mother f--" moment at the end which nearly redeemed the whole thing) was when he told that whiny computer b*tch to shut the f*ck up when he was going on and on about the media. I think that's what happened to the action genre. The political correct liberal movement has deemed it something to be cleaned up and sanitized. They want to make it "artsy," or not make it at all (hence the crap color treatment to make it look like Bad Boys or an MTV video). I think Hollywood is ashamed of this genre, and only puts it out there to make money. They don't love it anymore.

I think the over-the-top moments of the 1st DH movie worked. Jumping off a building with a firehose? I bought it. No problem. Tying explosives to a chair and tossing it down an elevator shaft? I cheered. I ate that shit up. Driving an SUV into an elevator shaft to kill a girl Bruce can't defeat with his fists? Lame. No comparison. (Thank you feminism--women have to be superhuman male defeaters in order to be in action movies nowadays. They can't just look good like they used to. :) )
