I agree that Lore could certainly have and probably should have picked a less offensive comment to post. Ms Mary, I apologize on behalf of Lore and I am sure when he realizes he has upset you he will apologize too. I do want to say though, that we are a diverse group from all walks of life with different opinions and different things and degrees of things that offend us. We can't be 100% politically correct at all times. I would also like to say that I hope we can just let this go and move on.

Personally, I don't see that there should be a problem, considering that many many comedies have used the swastika and Nazis in jokes. However, that said, it does not mean it is objectively funny. Or without criticism. I am saddened some have taken offense.

We do need to be sensitive to each other's feelings ... I think Lore was doing that in deleting the post. But we also need to cut each other some slack. We can let 'political correctness' make this a sterile place.

Talking about symbols and Nazi's does not trivialize the Holocaust. We had the 'Soup Nazi' and no one called for a boycott of Seinfeld or accused him of being anti-semetic!!

BirdandBear, one of our gentlest souls. Do you think your accusations against Lore were consistent with these guidelines below?

Some of you may want to perhaps discuss and apologize in PMs. We are a loving and supportive family. Are we acting that way in this situation?

Obviously the admins ultimately decide what they will or will not allow on their forum, and if they say it is unacceptable then I am sure Lore will either bite his tongue or leave.

Regardless, I'm with Lore and dAN on this one. I am with them completely. It was a joke i.e. not to be taken seriously. Lore has done nothing wrong and if you are offended by his joke then that is your problem and yours alone.

I'll add my comments. I am part Jewish and almost full Gypsy. Members of my mothers and fathers side of the family would no doubt have been slaughtered by Nazis. I hate the Nazis with a passion, but am fascinated by WWII (and the rise of Nazi Germany). I did not intend for my post to be a comment on Nazis or those who suffered at the hands of the Nazis.

I was not offended by Lore's post but I can see how some might be and I will reiterate my earlier comment, we can't be 100% politically correct so sooner or later everyone will be offended by another on this forum.

P.S. I also thank you Lore for justifying my faith in you by removing the post as soon as you found out Ms. Mary was offended. That was very kind and responsible of you.

You know, I don't really want to feed the flames, but I'm really sick of biting my tongue. I'm well aware of the origins of the swastika, and for that matter, those of the cross symbol. However the origins of both symbols have been completely overshadowed by historical events that have left an indelible impression on humanity. Whatever they meant before, the cross is universally recognized as a Christian symbol, and the swastika has become representative of murder, degradation, and genocide.

I agee with this - it's unfortunate but true.

I didn't really think about it quite that harshly. I think that Loremaster just didn't think about it, as others didn't think about laughing or commenting about it. It has, as I said, become commonplace to make light of these things, but that doesn't make it right. I would opt in favor of more sensitivity, not less.

I am personally far more offended by the "What's the big deal?" attitudes I've seen in response to MsMary's protest.

Sorry about the everyone. Lore and I have already mended our fences. My comments about him came out harsher than the affectionate way in which they were meant. Oh the travails of self-expression through text...
And I've edited the (to my mind) far more incendiary comment at the end that no one seems to have noticed...


As I told Lore, it wasn't the joke itself that got my dander up, it was seeing someone else who was offended get poo-pooed for being oversensitive.
