You have to read the original series, especially issues 1-10 (I think 1-10 were better than the Starlin stuff, hands down). Then there's the 2nd series, Saga of the Swamp Thing (issues 20-64) that were written by Alan Moore, which were also quite impressive.

the Alan Moore stuff is great. kind of like Lovecraft in some regards. really good horror. DC also had another horror title that was great, but more underated in Night Force. (Wolfman and Colon)

A link to the new trailer is included. I haven't seen it yet as I can't watch Quicktime movies at work.

[Edit - guys, you gotta see this trailer. This movie looks pretty damn good!]

Watched the trailer. I'm impressed with what I'm seeing so far. This may very well be a quality re start to the series.

Superman kicked your ass in one of those 1970s crossovers.

I just saw a commercial on tv, and Supes will be released in IMAX. I only expect much from this movie in the visual department, and I expect MUCH in that department. I think I'll see it there! :D

Perhaps it's partly because I'm not American, or maybe because I'm not up to date on Superman's current situation in the comics, but I never truly loved the character. Oh, I liked Superman I and II, I'll likely watch the movie, and I even watch Smallville, but it's mostly to satisfy my hunger for superhero movies; he is far too *iconic* for my tastes. Not to mention that some of the most unfortunate choices writers took over the years - such as the introduction of so many different kinds of kryptonite, color-coded for your convenience - made it even less appealing. I mean, seriously:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kryptonite

Check the "forms of kryptonite" chapter and you'll see what I mean. I guess we should all be thankful that pink kryptonite was only a spoof... :P

I don't read Superman comics. I get the occasional issue, when he's fighting someone who can fight him. Black Adam, Captain Marvel, Mongul, Darkseid, etc. But all in all, I don't have much interest in him either. The first two movies are somewhere between good and great, and this new movie picks up after the 2nd, pretending the 3rd and 4th don't exist. Which is just as well.

Are those covers real or parody, dAN? 'Cause if they are real then Superman is a complete tool. 8O

Oh, and this might be the first movie I might go see in the new IMAX theater a few miles up the road. :D I had no wish at all to see the movies they have shown there thus far. :|

I read that Bryan Singer admitted in an interview that Superman Returns cost "more than a quarter-billon dollars" to make.

Great Scott! $250 million?! I thought it would be some time before Titanic's budget was eclipsed, but I guess when your movie is about Superman, the sky's the limit. James Cameron must be feeling jealous: he needs to get off his butt and shoot another blockbuster soon, in order to show young punks like Singer who's boss when it comes to insane movie budgets!
