Memories of Ice [Spoilers]

Post by lucimay »

hey Murrin...or Syl or who ever has an idea

i think i figured something out in the prologue of MoI.

this may have been hashed over at the Malazan Forum but i didn't check aforehand...

who is T'amber? (besides Tavore's "aide")

i'm on a re-read of MoI and things are starting to fall into place a bit in the old noggin.

before i get any further...what sword is Draconus forging?
Spoiler
Rake's?

I don't know any sword that Draconus forged other than Dragnipur, so probably.

I still have no idea who T'amber is. I was thinking she was a dude, though, since Tavore said something about knowing a person by their touch, but that's just a WAG.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

i'm a dink. not 10 pages later it says just that. space queen. there's just so MUCH to keep track of. *sigh*

anyway... i have a guess on T'amber. re-read the prologue.

the layers of this thing...K'rul, Draconus...
Spoiler
i'm thinking T'amber could be Sister of Cold Nights.

"After a long moment, K'rul and his brother turned to their sister.
She shrugged. 'I shall endeavour to guard myself. When my destruction comes, it will be through betrayal and naught else. There can be no precaution against such a thing, lest my life become its own nightmare of suspicion and mistrust. To this, I shall not surrender. Until that moment, I shall continue to play the mortal game.'
'Careful, then,'K'rul murmured, 'whom you choose to fight for.'
'Find a companion,' Draconus advised. 'A worthy one.'"

however...i could be spacing some later scene in this book, not to mention HoC, MT, and BH, as i spaced the stupid sword.

Hmm, well, she could be *cold* to the touch.

You have read MoI before, haven't you? :P

The Sister of Cold Nights is identified in MoI, and there's a clue as to her identity right there in the prologue, when Kallor curses her.

The prologue of MoI is one of the more interesting ones. Includes a lot of little bits of information: The origin of the Great Ravens, the Fall of the Crippled God, Kallor's age and power, the forging of the sword, what happened to the Elder Gods, the beginning of the story of Togg and Fanderay... and something relevant to The Bonehunters:
Spoiler
Kallor mentions Ardata holding out against him, always late to pay him tribute (though I believe it's spelled Ardatha in this one).

Come on Lucimay, the Sister of Cold Nights is:
Spoiler
Nightchill
That's why Kallor hates Silverfox so much.
You do not hear, and so you cannot be redeemed.

In the name of their ancient pride and humiliation, they had made commitments with no possible outcome except bereavement.

He knew only that they had never striven to reject the boundaries of themselves.

I will admit Luci that I missed all of the hints we were given in Kallor's curses - I didn't realise who the Sister of Cold Nights was until someone else mentioned it to me. :D

And yeah, T'amber is a chick.

i didn't miss the hints either the first time i read it or the second time. i got it...i just forgot between the first time i read it and the second.

can you say short term memory loss? (or maybe i'm old and just don't know it!! )

no really...there are things in this series that are hard to keep straight for me...there's soooo much and it's so all over the place.

i just don't have the encyclopedic Mind of Murrin, dabnabbit.

speaking of Murrin...where the hell is he? 8O

92 pages now. Absolutely stunning stuff!! Unquestionably my favorite book in the series so far! The levels of power involved are greater and farther reaching than ever. Yet so well done!! Not just throwing power around in a failed attempt to impress the reader. DAMN!! :D :D :D :D :D

MoI keeps getting better! Still not 200 pages, but still! Absolutely bizarre stuff going on.

And Tool is even better than he was in GotM!!! Hey, does Paolo know about the T'lan Imass?

no! i have impressed upon him the need to read Erikson! (surprise surprise)

i wanted to explain the T'lan Imass to him but...didn't know how to convey the awesomeness of them so i didn't try. heh.

i'm rereading GotM and just got to the part where Tool comes up and helps Lorn!

i love Toc the Younger.

The wars are amazing. First the Chain of Dogs, and now Capustan. Looooong, but not remotely boring!

The Pannion Domin are the nastiest s.o.b.'s!! 8O 8O DAMN!! YUCK!!!

Quick Ben is cooler every time he makes an appearance! :D

The meetings between any or all of Dujek, Whiskeyjack, Rake, Brood, Kallor, Silverfox, Kruppe...

Kruppe!! What a character! He has some of the best one-liners! Can't wait to find out what his story is! :D

I'm almost on page 600. Been a while since I saw Tool and the Seguleh. But we're hearing about them, Envy, and the dogs. Tearing up the Pannion Domin! What would an army of the Seguleh be like????? 8O (Do we ever find out? heh)
