even still more "Fatal Revenant" news
Both G. P. Putnams Sons and Orion/Gollancz are putting "Fatal Revenant" on their schedules for October 2007 (the 30th anniversary of the publication of "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever"). They can do this because I've agreed to produce a "finished" third draft by the end of January--which is pretty fast work for me, but I think I can do it.

fingers crossed!

*A bunch of old folks sitting in rocking chairs on the front porch*
"I remember when Fatal Revenant came out back in aught-six..."
"Wasn't aught-six, ya damned fool, it was aught-seven!"
"Eh? Wazzat? Speak up!"
"I said it was aught-seven! Put your derned hearin' aide in!"
"Don't need no hearin' aide! I hear just fine! Stop mumblin'! That's the problem!"
*fade to sunset*

Cool. You know, I'd personally love to buy Donaldson's early drafts. As a "student of writing," I'd love to compare how he goes from 1st draft to finished work. If limited demand precludes publishing it, then why not make it available for download? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would fork over the cash. Just look at all the money Christopher Tolkien is making off his father's early drafts.
You know, I don't understand why there's not a market for this in general. Surely there's a segment of hardcore fanbases for every author who would eagerly pay for early drafts. Even if it's just 1000 people per author, that's $20,000 extra for work that's already completed. Given virtually zero costs via downloads, seems like a no brainer.
