Did anyone find this series kinda lacking in writing?

I really had to slog through the first book, but I found the second one to be far superior and a pleasant surprise. In fact, it could be my favourite non-Covenant book from SRD.

Man I can't believe I made this thread, what an embarrassment! I'm enjoying A Mirror of Her Dreams this time around.

All good. One of the nice things about re-reading dense books like this is that there's a lot to be gained from re-reads.

All the characters seem believable to me, except Norge, as he stays so incredibly calm through the worst chaos (not to say I didn't LIKE him, just that he's the least believable). As for writing style, I love that the story combines fantasy, mystery, horror, and science fiction while all these genres seem to flow together rather than clash.
