Category Nomination Thread

Post by [Syl] »

Yep. It's that time again. So go ahead and nominate your ideas for categories.

Examples:

-Best Post in Thomas Covenant Discussion
-Best avatar
-Best signature

etc

We'll give it about a week. After that, I'll take the obvioius ones and any categories that have a seconded nomination and work from there. And this is just for categories. Don't throw any names out yet.

Relax, guys. There will be a Self Aggrandizement thread as soon as the nominations are complete.

<edit> you deleted your post, Wadds?

<edit again> now that was weird. How did my post get in front of Waddley's?

Yeah I deleted it and then reposted it, I'm sorry Syl. I thought I was quick enough to do it without notice.

(And I don't actually want to win "Best Poster Named Waddley" BUT, I'll vote on the nominees!!)

Last year's category list was pretty comprehensive. I think most of them should be done again this time:

I know there's best post/thread in a Waymeet forum, but can we single out best food/recipe post/thread?

Where would I find the previous years award winners? I don't think I've ever seen these forums.

Sure you can, Menolly. That's what the thread is for. ;)

There wasn't a forum last year, just a couple topics in A&S.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Maybe we should move those threads here, and just name this the "Watchy Awards Forum".

Yeah, I'll move them, though I'm not sure I like the idea of a permanent forum. Kind of mungs up the look of A&S. *shrug*

Easily solved: Whenever the Watchies aren't on, the admins can lock it and make it a hidden forum. Noone will know it's there, but the topics will all be preserved.

Last year I was completely confused by "best thread". How do you give a person credit for a thread? A good thread is a community effort.

Otherwise I was happy with the categories we had last time around.

Edit: wait ... we need "Best Use of 'heh' in a Post" ...

The way I see it, even if it takes group participation to truly make a good thread, it will never happen if somebody doesn't start it. Kind of like Best Director or whatever. I mean, if you're working with a bunch of USC drop-outs for actors, your script was written by somebody who does furniture assembly instructions, and you got your equipment from Rent-a-Center, nobody will know you're a good director. But if you reverse everything... well, somebody has to take credit for making it come together.

Anyway, it's more like 'Best Idea for a Thread.'

Likewise, somebody could make a very insightful post in an otherwise average (if only relatively speaking) topic. That person gets credit for 'Best Post.'

Um, yeah... so, uh... let's get down to the nominations. Serious nominations now only, folks (doesn't mean you can't seriously nominate non-serious-type categories). Please repeat any nominations before this point just to be clear you really want to nominate it, and please second any that you feel should be nominated.

Please do not name anyone specifically yet, and please feel free to talk it up in the Discussion thread.
