Despite the prodigious lengths that our admins and mods have gone to in order to stop or root out spam, it still happens. Until you hear from an admin (hint, not me), take this as advice, but...

Follow the old internet adage and 'Don't feed the trolls.' Look, it's not like email spam. They're not trying to get you to buy their products or even click on their links. They're trying to increase their search engine rankings. Responding to them, no matter how clever you think you are, only helps them. The more they're rewarded, the more it's worth their time to re-register and do it over again.

The registration should clue you in that these are people setting up the accounts, not bots. They get paid to do it (pennies, but it can add up) by small internet 'media' companies. The good ones can do it so well a normal poster wouldn't notice it's spam.

You want to help? Just PM the mod/s of the forum or other mods to let them know it's there. Beyond rewarding the spammers, adding posts to the threads makes it that much harder for the mods or admins to clean it up (unless they choose to just delete your post with it, which, unless it's a policy, still requires them to make that consideration.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

There are two games in the Mallory's on that - the responses anyone wishes to post to the spam threads can be posted there CuffCufflink Gown and Accessories- The spambot game and carriers... thread - defence against bots and non-readers

Unless people are that much not eager to post in the Mallory's - though I don't see how it's worse than posting in an actual spam thread elsewhere.

Hahaha.

Syl is absolutely right. But you don't have to worry...if you want to reply you can, but you'll probably lose the post when the spam gets deleted.

Their reward in replies is usually that it gives them the opportunity to reply in turn, but most are too low quality to do that. They create an account, make a post, and move on. If the post stays, they benefit. If it doesn't, they don't care, they got paid anyway.

Probably have a disclaimer saying they're not responsible if the links don't last.

So, we just delete the thread. It's not policy per se, but we just do it. If you can live with that, reply to your hearts content. But if you want posterity, better to do it in Mallorys. ;)

Am I the only one who's concerned there's a user called Goatkiller666?

Why does he kill goats? Is it for some sacrificial ritual? Is he Albus Dumbledores brothers worst enemy? Is the 666 in reference to Satan or how many goats he kills?

Important questions we all need to ask ourselves.

No worries, Revan. Goat was a Gravin Threndor gamer and gamemaster who didn't post outside of that forum. Was very active about eight years ago, but as Gravin Threndor withered away, he took the games he was running to some other site and hasn't been seen since, at least to the best of my knowledge.

Menolly used to have a very active correspondence with him, but she hasn't mentioned him (either as Goat or his RL identity) in years.

A friend of mine had a goat called Trevor.
Crazy thing would take lit cigarettes out of peoples hands and eat them. Only the lit ones mind you.

Trevor just vanished one day. Hope Goatrooter666 had nothing to do with it,

The goat probably died of cancer.

Someone should have told it smoking is bad for you.
