Encyclopaedia Malazica

sweeeet site, nicely organized. 8)

i haven't perused far yet but so far i like it.
will report back after explorations.

Ian Cameron Esslemont: I (and Steve) both believe that Malaz is vastly different from the general popular fantasy series of the genre. We deliberately set out to achieve this goal of convention challenge, contravention, and reversal. It is deliberately anti-heroic in a genre heretofore reserved for heroic indulgences all this because we have faith in the intelligence and discrimination of genre readers to recognize when they are not being talked (or written) down to. In many ways the entire series is an extended critical study of the genre itself how it works, why it works, how far can it be pushed to evolve? But all that is sub-textual and academic; foremost the books must and do remain a damn hair-raising read. If that falls down then it will all fall down (and deservedly so).(Malazanempire Interview (2005))

Cool! Thanks for the link!

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing

I just noticed a couple of things that should be added to EM. Anybody here have editing ability? I don't see where to register.

You read bonehunters yet? If so, you can read the below spoiler for explanation, if not just hold off for now.
Spoiler
Ardata is the patron goddess of spiders, queen of spiders, or saint of arachnids, or something like that. The unnamed woman who heals mappo? She talks about Mogora a bit, and later on someone (don't remember who) names Mogora a disciple of 'er. And later, Sister Spite names her the spider goddess/spider queen/something like that.

Editing privileges are restricted. You have to go on the forum and submit some content/edits to be looked at (and added) to prove yourself at least a lil' dedicated to adding stuff.

Yeah, I guess I'll do that. I assumed it was a wikipedia type of thing, where anybody can register and edit.

Yikes, I'm beginning to see how much more there is to do on the encyclopedia! I won't get too involved in it, but I'll send some stuff here and there.

Honestly, what I really wanted, and still want, is blatant theorizing on edgewalker. I just don't have any ideas on what the hell he is, and I wanna know real bad.

I thought I'd picked up somewhere (maybe on the Enc. Mal.) that Edgewalker is an elder god. I might be mistaken thought.

Heh, for my part I remember the books saying around deadhouse or memories of ice that Dassem is Dessembrae (spelling?), known as the lord of tears. Also, I'm pretty sure we saw him in House of Chains travelling (hint) around, flesh still stuck to skin.
