I like the top 8. I'd move Wrath of Khan up a bit from #20, though.

Yeah, Wrath of Khan is a top five, if not flat out #1. A Shot In The Dark deserves a spot in there, as well as a few Bond movies (Thunderball!). Hell, Shrek 2 was better that some of those on the list.

OK, I have a problem with two of these being on the list at all...

Kill Bill Vol. 2

Die Hard 2

Both of these movies are a little better than shite...

:2c:

Throw in "From Russia With Love" and "Sanjuro" in there to replace them.

Is this based on a comparison of grosses or quality? I'm inclined to think grosses.

I always considered the LOTR movies one. A sequel, IMO, is a movie that follows a stand alone movie. That also leaves out Kill Bill 2, since the first one isn't complete without the second.

Wrath of Khan should be top 10. First Contact can replace Kill Bill 2. I also find Chronicles of Riddick more watchable than most people.

Good points, however I don't think Riddick is better than Dark...

And good choice on "First Contact"

I'm not a fan of the Godfather films as many people are, so I'll leave it at that.

Thus, Empire Strikes Back would top that list for me, though just barely holding back Terminator 2.

I'd put ST II: Wrath of Khan at #3. And hey, if they're going to include the third film of a series in a sequels list, then I'm gonna name ST III: The Search For Spock at #4, and ST IV: The Voyage Home at #5. These 3 Trek films form in my mind the greatest sci-fi movie trilogy outside of Star Wars Ep. 4,5,6. (And at least Kirk and company don't have to put up with Ewoks.)

Before Sunset would be #6, because this film and the original, Before Sunrise, are very special to me.

The Mummy Returns is my pick for #7. I love the two Mummy movies, they're seriously fun.

2010 at #8. It deserves to be on a list of greatest sequels because it succeeds as a movie with its own identity, despite being held against the immense reputation of the original.

I finally watched X2: X-Men United last week. WOW. I was impressed by just about every aspect of it. I kept thinking: how could this marvelous movie be directed by the same man (Bryan Singer) who bored me silly with Superman Returns? I might rank X2 even higher on my list, but I need to watch it a few more times just to be sure it's still as amazing as I think it is.

Aliens creeps in at #10. Years ago, I would've ranked it way higher, but lately I've only had eyes for the original. Still, Aliens can suck me in...once the movie is on, it's hard to stop watching.

Re: the Kill Bill movies - I tend to think of them as one complete film, too. Otherwise, I'd put Kill Bill Vol.2 way up there, easily. I'm a total Kill Bill fan.

I watched both of these films recently (based on your recommendation in another thread a while back) and enjoyed them greatly - thanks!

I love Pitch Black. I wanted to be blown away by Chronicles, so perhaps I give it more credit than it deserves . . . but I really like this movie, too. However, I have to be honest with myself and admit that it doesn't deserve to be on a top 20 list.

I agree with the Shrek 2 comment. We recently rewatched it to get ready for Shrek the 3rd. It's really funny! Funnier than the 1st. Can't wait for the 3rd. Maybe this weekend I'll check it out.
