Can I read anything in this forum?

Post by stonemaybe »

OK I am now halfway through Gardens of the Moon and I am hugely hugely impressed. I am LOVING this book! (Which I'm really glad about cos the last series that I read SOFAI after seeing so many recommendations on KW I thought was rubbish)

So, halfway through the first book of what looks like a huge series, I'm not gonna be able to read any of the threads in here am I? Without serious spoilers that is.

I love the magic, love the gods, love the potential - there seems to be so so many plotlines that can be explored. (The subsequent books better follow the ones that I find intriguing or there'll be trouble!)

I'm optimistic, though!

Hmmm...I'm over half way through the series and I try to be careful about what threads I read in here. Malazan is a series with soooo many twists and surprising plot developments you can get really screwed if you start reading spoilers, even minor one's. There are a number of characters that I had completely forgotten about or thought unimportant that come back and are quite central to future books. Also, the whole dynamic of the series-wars being fought on different continents, the complex ramifications of the empire's politics, the intervening of god's-is constantly changing. I mean, there's one book (I wont say which) that I had a brief re-read of the other day that takes on a whole new light after reading later books. Jutst be careful is what I'm saying! :P

well Stone, to me there's only ONE thing that happens that's really really really a spoiler. and that's in the third book, i believe or the fourth. can't remember.

but nobodys even talked about it in any of the threads. so i think you're actually alright to skim through the threads.

and DUDE!! welcome into the fold!! 8)

Last night, Luci really started pushing for me to read this series, so I figured I would at least pop into this forum and try to glean a little of what it's all about. I'm glad you started this thread, Stoney. I wouldn't want to ruin anything with spoilers either.

I think I best pop back out, until I'm finished with the DT series.

:::so, which to read first, Malazan or EarthSea? (Neverness is sliding lower and lower on the list, Fist. I have to deal with dragons first...) I trust the recommendations of both Watchers who suggested them to me:::

I'm just over halfway through the first book, and thought I'd have a quick peek in here. (Not reading any threads though)

Guess I'll pop back in when I've caught up with all the books (see you in a year)

About a quarter of the way through Deadhouse Gates now, and picked up Memories of Ice from my fave 2nd hand bookshop on Friday too  .

I absolutely love the Iskaral Pust character! I hope he comes back for more...

The bit "turn right 20 paces, turn right 32 paces.....'and so on had me giggling out loud on the bus to the airport on Friday. Heads were turning

(And there are dragons Menolly, pretty cool ones too, in Gardens of The Moon)

Which was part of Luci's very hard push to get me to read this series...

OK, this will be the next one then, after I finish King's DT. I just hope my library will have all of the books...

Oh shoot...

Interlibrary loan?

*****edit*****

Just checked, one copy each of Gardens of the Moon, House of Chains, and Memories of Ice are available through my local library (remember, this is a college town). Perhaps I could request they order (which they're actually quite good about) the rest to add to the series, or get the rest through ILL...
