BTW - the little woman and I ate at a Firehouse Subs for the first time today, and folks, I'm here to tell ya, dem's some good viddles right there. OMG. I had this mondo meatball sub, take one of the them and put it on your head, and your tongue will slap your brains out a'tryin' to get to it.

But I will agree with ya, dlb, Firehouse Subs has been ranked one of the top sub chains here in Florida for the last five years or so.

Personally, I truly like Publix's subs better, especially as I can dictate Boar's Head brands meats, and specifically which style of the cut and cheese I want.

Today's lunch is a bowl of ramen soup with a ham and provolone sandwich on honey wheat bread with Hellman's, Guldens, sliced sweet onion and kosher dill slices.

Ate a big breakfast, so my lunch was a baked potato with melted cheese and broccoli. Washed it down with an Ensure.

Kashi Southwest Style Chicken frozen dinner, some lettuce with balsamic vinegar, and blueberries. (I was supposed to meet today with the personal trainer, but she bailed. )

Seriously, the Kashi meals are pretty good, as frozen dinners go. They have complex carbs for the starch, and they're seasoned so that they actually taste like something. I really like the Black Bean Mango one.

Beorn and I walked 15 minutes each way in the heat to our neighborhood Church's fried chicken. I figure we worked off some of the fat and calories doing that...

Put it on untoasted seeded rye and use thousand island dressing instead of yellow mustard, grill it until it's good and HOT, and you have one of my favorites, the prueben. Good old New York deli classic. YUM!!

Yesterday as we were driving back from Georgia, Hyperception and I stopped at a local buffet in Valdosta (I think?) called the Good Times Buffet. Good, old fashioned southern food, although this born and bred Jewish Yankee makes better southern-style green beans. That was my only disappointment there though, along with the fact that they had no fried green tomatoes.

But, they introduced me to battered and deep fried green beans. Very different type of batter than tempura green beans; I liked these much better. I can see putting them out on a platter with deep fried mushrooms, fried green tomatoes, and some ranch dressing to dip them in as an appetizer.

They had deep fried chicken, simmered hog jowls, fried pork chops, greens (turnip I think), okra and tomatoes. butter beans, creamed corn, biscuits and corn bread, mashed potatoes and dark brown gravy, yellow crook neck sqaush with thick sliced bacon, soup bar, salad bar, and a dessert bar which included three different hot home made fruit cobblers. And that's only the items I remember as those are the ones I had small servings of. I was in foodie heaven.

I only hope we get to that exit at a meal time when we go to pick Beorn up from camp. Mmmm-mmm...

Well...it was Brunch as I hadn't eaten anything beforehand, but we didn't go until noon, so I'm posting under Lunch.

Hyperception and I went to a local breakfast and lunch place called the 43rd Street Deli. The fact that it is located at the intersection of NW 13th ST and NW 16th AVE should give you a bit of a feel for the joint. It is a not a favorite of Beorn's, so we go whenever we can while he's away.

On weekends they have an extensive specials menu, but it's always a crap shoot if their huevos rancheros will be on it. I lucked out today. While far inferior to what I had in Albuquerque, it still my favorite breakfast meal there.

I came aross a box of frozen Passover potato blintzes in the freezer. Why they're not called k'nish I don't know, but the flavor is pretty good.

Sauted them in a little of the congealed fat from the beer and butter mixture I saved from the last time I made bratwurst. Added a terrific beer flavor to them.

A smear of Guldens on each, and I'm all set.
