Cool pics CMJ. Never knew that you and my father in-law were colleagues (he's a body-builder (ha, ha!) with his own body-shop with three employees)

Damn, they really take their alignments seriously.

Here's a few shots of my dad's garage; or what's in it, at least.

You know Jenn, I worked as a manager at an auto parts store (part of a chain) for over a year.

Did I also mention that not only do I know nothing about cars or trucks but have very little interest in fixing them?

I was good with inventory and payroll though and that's why I was needed.

Then it was bought by Auto Zone.
Now, that company was messed up!
They used to make all the staff stand up on the counters and yell out the AutoZone cheer.
Man! Talk about embarassing.
I think I lost half my staff because of that stupid chant!

It was funny, they were largely based in the South and were *amazed* that anyone wouldn't want to do the chant, forget about quiting over it!
New Englanders are friendly...up to a point.

The old company had a computer program in place that not only graphically mapped out where the part on the car was but also gave a list of every accessory that you needed to get the job done.
It was perfect for a guy like me.
A guy with baby soft oil free hands!

Auto Zone's program just sucked total ass in that regard.
Oh! and the dumbass uniforms they had us wear.
All the manager's looked like Captain Stubing from the Love Boat.
I used to salute my co-managers when I showed up for my shift and ask: "Permission to come aboard sir!"

But, they were the reason I got out of retail so that's a good thing.

Yes, Cail, that is a LeCar. I wish it wasn't in my shop. However, my insane early midlife crisis customer who decided that he wanted a car just like the one he had in high school, purchased it online, and brought it to me to fix. He's sunk about four grand into it so far, is in the process of sinking another grand right now and he hasn't even begun the bodywork yet.... 8O  I wouldn't even have agreed to work on it if he hadn't been coming to me religiously with all his vehicles for many years.

HLT, A freaking CHEER? I would have quit over that too. I would label it quitting out of self respect. I think it would have been justified. Don't forget, I grew up in NE too. Falmouth High School, class of 86! I worked in Napa stores for many years, in fact I was their youngest female corporate store manager ever. Then they dicked me over when they decided to dump all the corporate stores. I am much better off where I am now anyway. I will never wear a uniform again and I will never work weekends again. I get to set my OWN rules here! Granted, Igor (see above) is the shop owner, he doesn't want anything to do with the running of the business. He just wants to fix cars.

Prebe - we do strictly mechanical repair and maintenence services. We are what you would call a full service shop in the states. Body shop stuff is practically unknown to me. 8)

Wayfriend, you need to stop watching "Tool Time" repeats. :P

aTOMiC, ? I only wish I had a radio flyer!

dAN, gorgeous car! Keep them keys away from those kids though!

Ah... I thought there were some tools I didn't recognize ;)

Auto repair is a very divided business in Denmark: The divide is abysmal. Mechanics love to hate body-workers and vice-versa. Frame-work falls in the body category over here. That's what misled me :(

Well, you are close, straightening the frame would be body work but replacing the frame entirely is one of those jobs that overlap the two. We are contracting this for a body shop. :)

Any time you are in SF Aliantha, feel free to come on by and smell the familiar grease and metal smells! :P

I was *gonna* say that I'll probably take you up on that, Jenn -- but after Cag's comment, I'm speechless. 8O

My guess is it's a late 50's Eagle; he also has a late '50's Mustang...stallion? It's even nicer than the Eagle. The car is a '51 Ford Victoria, and it was a national show winner when he showed it. You have no idea just how freaking mint that car is. He should rent it out to hollywood so it'd be in movies.

Jenn, is that a couple of 2 dollar bills on the cork board behind your chair? That bowl of Hershey's miniatures is making my stomach growl. Boy the cover of that printer looks like its been through a category 5 nicotine storm. :-)
