SRD just plain Mean! Spoiler Warning!
After first reading Runes (and wishing Thomas Covenant was a major player in the book), SRD ends the book w/ "The other stranger was unmistakably Thomas Covenant." I've been tortured for three years waiting to read Fatal Revenant (thinking of course it's a story about Thomas Covenant) and then OMG the exact same thing happens at the end of Fatal Revenant. And now we have to wait another 3 YEARS to actually have a book about Thomas Covenant!!!!
But, besides my complaints, I think this book was the best yet!

Well..Its my belief,, the Last Chronicles is all about Linden,,,shes the one who got transported,, its her arc,. Yet,, can you remember your " frustration" with TC in Lord Fouls Bane? His stubborness and at times blockheaded refusual to see and accept what was going on around him? Isn't Linden of the same ?
So, I'm not really wanting more of TC because ,, well, been there done that..TC can't be much more than a mentor here,,and in that,, it will be a great play between Linden and Tom,, because she wants him to tell her what to do..but because of his Knowledge,,has to be very careful with what he says. Donaldson already laid it out ...Knowledge is Earned...so contrast that with,, Linden calling down Thomas from the arch of time to tell her what to do..Some conflict there!!...It will be interesting to see what the author has Linden to learn and fathom about her " LOVE".

If she withdrew from exaltation, she would be forced to think- And every thought led to fear and contradictions; to dilemmas for which she was unprepared.

Hey, lurch!
I do agree with you that the Last Chrons are all about Linden, tho.
And yeah, it occurred to me, too, that SRD chose to end this second book with a TC sighting.
I think you're right, dlb, that this is the real TC. Makes me wonder, tho, whether SRD will carry this theme through with the ending for AATE....

Except that TC refused to act (well, other than that little thing with Lena). Linden's *acting* all over the place. Yes, choosing not to act is, in itself, a choice, and it did have repercussions for TC. But Linden is forging ahead with all this cavalry-like behavior ("got to save my son!") and damn the consequences.lurch wrote:Well..Its my belief,, the Last Chronicles is all about Linden,,,shes the one who got transported,, its her arc,. Unless this new Covenant is actually Joan in disguise.

The FR is Covenant for sure. Andelain wouldn't allow deceit like that. I think AATE will also end with a TC cliffhanger. I see a pattern here. I'm too old for these long waits.

Heard my ears aright? Did not the gaddhi grant me this glaive?

I would love another Covenant POV.dlbpharmd wrote:I think this one will be real. Whether the story is told from his POV is another story.Lord Douchebag wrote:Unless this new Covenant is actually Joan in disguise.
But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.
Full of the heavens and time.

Well, SRD practically promised that the Final Chronicles would be about Thomas Covenant, didn't he?
I can't see him achieving that promise unless TC gets to be the POV at some point.
I'm rather disappointed that he hasn't even gotten on stage after two whole books. I mean, what's his character arc in this series? Who knows, could be anything at this point.
I just keep telling myself that there's two whole books to go. We spent two whole books without him, but we have an extra book, so that makes things a little better. We just have to consider Runes + FR combined to be the first book of the trilogy...

Oh, come on!
These books aren't all about TC, as interesting a character as he is; they are also about the Land and all the amazing folks and critters of all ilk we run into along the way. For example, to me the best critters in the whole series so far are the mud blobs that TC runs into on his way to Foul's domain in TPTP and I'm not agonizing that I don't see these critters in each book.

Cowboy: Why you doin' this, Doc?
Doc Holliday: Because Wyatt Earp is my friend.
Cowboy: Friend? Hell, I got lots of friends.
Doc Holliday: ... I don't.

I'm not so sure. I'm seriously thinking that Linden's resurrection of Covenant is going to be another dead end. He said "Find me," but what she did doesn't seem to fit the order -- anymore than the appearance of Covenant/Roger and Jeremiah. And on the last page Covenant certainly didn't respond as though this was what he had in mind. I think Linden hasn't really found him yet. Or at least she has to find him in another way.dlbpharmd wrote:I think this one will be real.Lord Douchebag wrote:Unless this new Covenant is actually Joan in disguise.

I'm wondering about how the dilemma of the White Gold Ring, now that TC is apparently back. LA didn't return it to Roger posing as TC, so it will be interesting to see if she gives it to this one, that she had a hand in calling forth.

You know, I'm not buying this business that *Covenant* said "Find me". Specifically, Anele was possessed, or so we are led to believe and it's the characters around him that decide it is Covenant. Then, the author does a great tap dancing job of false validation of that deduction, if that's what you call it.largo wrote:I'm not so sure. I'm wondering if this is one of those twists that's going to bite us soon. We all go along thinking that was Thomas who said "Find me" only to find out later that it was someone else - maybe a new key character. Or perhaps a new twist on a known character.
I didn't miss something did I?
How did that change??dlbpharmd wrote:I think this one will be real. Whether the story is told from his POV is another story.Lord Douchebag wrote:Unless this new Covenant is actually Joan in disguise.
