That has already happened, Es...Esmer wrote:are there still movies to be made from the books? How is this going to affect that I wonder.....
Rowling told the audience that while working on the planned sixth Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," she spotted a reference in the script to a girl who once was of interest to Dumbledore. A note was duly passed to director David Yates, revealing the truth about her character.

I think people will see what they want to see. I doubt Gambon will change his portrayal because of this.Esmer wrote:yea, but WE didn't know about it, I'm not sure if Gambon or Harris knew it either. I'm thinking more of the pressure for the character to "respond" to the "gayness" that is now "expected" of him in the next movie? Will we now see blatant, or even not so blatant even subtle, references to it now?

Geez, I hope not. I think Gambon is a decent enough actor that he won't get it all femmed up.

I doubt it. It's just a role it's not like he is promoting homosexuality or condoning it or anything. Right?

Thanks WF!!
Es...he's an actor. Did you ever see the commercial Loretta Switt, a strict vegetarian, did for Burger King? Or that Earth, Wind, and Fire did for a beer (I think it was Miller High Life), even though several members were strict tee-totallers? Same principal.
I mean shoot. I'm Jewish. I don't write out any names of G-d if I recognize a word as such. But sightreading in chorus, at least in my experience, is almost always done using a hymnal. And I have no problem with that.

Harris would have done it. He was fearless in the roles he took.... "A Man Called Horse."

Who the hell cares. The beauty of JKR's "revelation" is that D being gay ISN'T relevant in and of itself to the story. Dumbledore is what he is REGARDLESS of his orientation, just like non-fictional gays.
I must admit however, abot a dozen cheap wand jokes came to mind....

I still don't see the point of revealing this information outside the context of the books. If JKR was trying to help fans understand why Dumbledore was so easily infatuated with Grindelwald and his ideas, why not work out the issue of his homosexuality within the actual storyline? If the information wasn't important enough to be given to us in the books, why mention it now? I can see why she's telling us about the other characters' futures -- naturally, people are curious. But Dumbledore was already dead. Personally, once he was dead and the issues about his family were resolved, I wasn't very curious anymore.
But I guess everyone's already said that.
Still, I suppose it'll be interesting the next time I read the books. I've got a funny feeling about that twinkle in his eye...
