It is entirely possible that bad-assness was actually one of the Lores of the Old Lords, that Kevin secreted away...

More like Kevin never mastered. I have a suspicion that he bought his Wards at the Land equivalent of Hot Topic. He was rather Emo.

A question about this very topic was asked in the GI - in 2005 - and responded to.
It has been asked again more recently, and may get a response.

Good posts on the subject. I really have no idea where he's going with Mahrtiir - dismissing the obvious that is. I couldn't help but laugh when Stave and Marhtiir were paired up for something - only one good eye between two people. That doesn't sound like the smartest move there...

I find it curious, we have been given a vague insight into his characters future, that he may somehow gain a "legendary" status among the Ramen for his deeds, but perhaps another clue lies within his name. When I attempt to pronounce it , it comes out Martyr. History is filled with famous victims of circumstance.

Holy ... !

Could it be that Mahrtiir wants to emulate the example of Kelen... but hopes that he can be successful?

I doubt it. Who would honestly trust the Despiser to keep his word in something like that?

Martyrdom is , to willingly give up your life so as not to compromise your ideals, to sacrifice yourself in a cause that you feel to be greater than yourself. I can picture Mahrtiir doing this, out of a simple desire to be useful.

In the Gradual Interview was wrote:If I remember right, Mahrtiir is a character who seeks to find meaning in his life through battle/conflict/adventure. The fact that a character with this direction in life has a name that sounds a lot like martyr seems like too good a fit to be a coincidence. I know I am probably dancing close to the line of a spoiler, and as such cannot expect too much of an answer, but I'm curious, was the connection I notice with his name intentional?

I agree with both you and Mr. B. I don't trust the Despiser either... but from Mahrtiir's perspective, maybe he thinks there's some way. Or maybe he knows something that the Despiser doesn't. That Kelen didn't.

He has already been fashioned into a powerful example of hope. He could have given into despite over the loss of his vision, instead he accepted the added responsibility of blind leadership. He has already proven himself to be an example to follow, and I dont doubt for a second that he would sacrifice himself for any member of Lindens party.

There's nothing wrong with carpet per se, it's just it should not be put in places where it doesn't belong, the kitchen and the bathroom being two of them:)
And I'm not American, thank you very much :)

Actually, carpet is perferable to laminates in the kitchen and bathroom, it prevents possible fatal slips and trips.
