This isn't exactly a true statement anymore, though I admit that in the 70's and '80's, they were very true to their studio material (and having seen a few 'tribute' bands trying to do their stuff, I have to say it's pretty damn impressive to watch Ruch pull it off, even before they started 'stretching'). I've seen them several times, and they have grown more "live" over the last ten years (which is only 3 tours, BTW). In fact, they've gotten quite personable and relaxed, like they realize who and what they are, and who and what their audience is, too. My only concern is that they seem to have gotten louder, too; but that may just be my ears getting older......still, in my book, they're the best band ever.

 I am finding the same thing, but with every group I go see. I just chalk it up to age. Nothing a good pair of earplugs doesn't ...

But I must add to my passage about their live show ... it has been about 15 years since I saw them live... so I can't really be a good judge of them now...

I think that they're fantastic.
Three musicians and all of that sound!
Plus, they certainly withheld the test of time.
Have you hugged your arghule today?

I didn't realize that dAN. It may be time to give 'em another shot.

Heh, it may be too late now. But, you can always get the Rush in Rio DVD; it has some cool bonus stuff, and some cool hidden stuff too.

"cool hidden stuff"? Mr. Dan, pray tell, what?!
I got the Rio CD the day it came out and was not aware of any hidden stuff!
...But then again, I am naive this way... I just throw the CD on and listen. The same with DVDs.. I'm barely aware of easter eggs...

Rush In Rio
On their release 'Rush In Rio,' the band has also included two great hidden features, but despite there actually being hints on the packaging and DVD, these Easter Eggs are not easy to find. Luckily we can help with that.

Insert the second disc of the DVD set and then play the 'The Boys In Brazil' documentary. When Alex Lifeson starts talking about the song 'By-Tor & The Snow Dog' (around 0:26:40) hit the 'Enter' button on your remote control. This will begin a short animated film made especially for the 'Vapor Trails' tour.

A second Easter Egg is located also on the second disc. Start 'O Baterista' and then go back to the DVD’s menu. Now, start 'YYZ' and go back to the menu again. Then start 'YYZ' once again, and go back to the menu. Finally, start 'O Baterista' once again and then go back to the menu. (In order, they are tracks 2-1-1-2, which is the title of one of their albums). The menu will now contain a new menu entry called 'Anthem 75.'

This exciting feature has been submitted to us by Kevin S. Jung
That 'Anthem 75' thing is actually a video of the song "Anthem", done in 1975.

You guys should enjoy this.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Their shows are MUCH better than they used to be. They seem infused with a new energy after nearly breaking up after Neil's catastrophic lost (wife and daughter dying within a year of each other). They do play most songs very close to the album, but there's also a lot of jams, too. Even an acoustic set on the last two tours. But more than anything, the sound is what is improved over the albums: much more raw and powerful, even for the 80's synth-strong songs.

Things to watch for: DVD from last tour (30th ann.), DVDs from all previous recorded tours, new album, and remaster Vapor Trails (which was a mastering disaster).

By the way, if you love Rush and haven't yet signed the petition to get them inducted in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, here's the link:

www.petitiononline.com/xanstar/petition.html

I still can't believe KISS is in there but Rush isn't.......

New Rush CD/DVD coming!

Post by Usivius »

Mid-November, Rush release a CD/DVD combo of their show in Germany last year. It supposedly has tons of material on it, including an old 1978 performance and some interesting 'outtakes'.

OK, this is all kinds of fun. I'm gonna put it in youtube thread, too.

The guy even made the video length 21:12.

Enjoy!

AFTERIMAGE
Music by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson
Lyrics by Neil Peart

Suddenly, you were gone
From all the lives you left your mark upon

I remember
How we talked and drank into the misty dawn
I hear the voices
We ran by the water on the wet summer lawn
I see the footprints
I remember

I feel the way you would
I feel the way you would

I tried to believe, but you know it's no good
This is something that just can't be understood

I remember
The shouts of joy, skiing fast through the woods
I hear the echoes
I learned your love for life
I feel the way that you would
I feel your presence
I remember

I feel the way you would
I feel, I feel the way you WOULD!
I feel, I feel the way you would
This just can't be understood

NO!
