I suppose it's pretty far-out thinking, but with the intuitive thinking going on here, I wonder how possible it would be for SRD to register as a member and contribute ideas. Or as a guest checking in occasionally for possible ideas to use?

mmm .. good question ..

.. We could write to SRD's publisher and extend an open invitation to SRD .. to come anytime .. and post if he was to feel inclined.

I know of some authors that not only attend fan-sites but also host them .. ie: Orson Scott Card .. has his own extensive site where he promotes his works and has an open discussion board where fans can comment etc.. and post notices of events ie: Ender-con .. etc.. that Foamy plans on attending. .. and from time to time he even posts himself ..

So its not an out of this world suggestion Bannor .. it does happen .. sadly not available for Gap of Rohan ..

but I dont see SRD being inclined to host a site that promotes himself or his works .. somehow

.. but he may well be interested in visiting a site to see how his works have impacted in the lives of those who have read them.

its worth a shot!

<I wonder if Jay has already sent notification of the site details to SRD via his publisher???? If not .. it is a good idea>

It is still my pet theory that Gray Slayer--a member on the list who has never said a word is actually SRD!! I find the choice of name and the address of Kent, Ohio intriguing!!

I'm sure SRD checks this site! He must! This is probably one of the ultimate ego trips. Anyone would succomb to it once or twice!

He probably gets quite a few laughs at some of the things that he comes up with. As for using ideas, however, I would think that he would be unable to use ANYTHING that has been on this site. Otherwise, he could be sued for plagiarism.

I believe that SRD could use the ideas that are expressed within this forum if he asked the person who came up with them, but why would he? He is an intelligent enough writer that he has to have plenty of his own ideas. But it would sure blow my socks off to one day look in my pm and see a personal message from the master himself asking if he could use an idea that I had come up with! And I am certain that the same could be said the same of all within this forum.

I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiments you expressed re: SRD .. He is intelligent enough to create a world that keeps us all busily engaged in analysing and scrutinising .. I think he can come up with his own ideas! But yeah ... wow .. if he wanted to use anything he read on this board .. how cool would that be? The man is a genius! And he is a man of integrity .. I really believe this .. and not all authors are imo .. There are some who are motivated to make a buck .. and others who are soley interested in promoting themselves and their work .. SRD is not any of these ..

In this respect and mayhap others .. he is in the class of authorship of Tolkien and Lewis .. also possessed of great integrity.

I agree with you completely, Sky! If SRD is not in a class by himself; then it certainly doesn't take a long time to call the roll! I believe anyone here would be flattered to have SRD use his/her idea expressed here at KW. I think that if I were SRD, I would have already visited this forum. Are there other Donaldson "discussion" forums? I would love to see what my fans are envisioning about upcoming books, plots, plot twists, characters, etc. If I saw an idea I liked, I'd ask the person if I could use it and mention them in the book somewhere (probably in the back

.. but I am afraid to have to inform you that you will need to suffer the punishment of the 'Omum - Nah' .. tis where if you paid attention to the other thread

.. you must offer yourself up for 50 lashes .. with a .. 'sticky wet noodle' ..

..ok ok .. just a .. 'wet noodle' .. doesn't really have to be sticky .. but mark my words .. it will get pretty sticky after 50 lashes!! .. so it all amounts to the same thing

If you do not possess a noodle in the house .. things really must be bad .. but you can undoubtedly order one on e-bay ..

and if you have any complaints or see any injustice in this mode of punitive retribution .. complain to Tohm .. he is resposnible for resurrecting the 'Omun -sticky noodle-Nah' punishment!

I am sure that if he did borrow an idea or two no one would mind. All he would have to do is ask and of course name one of the main characters after the donor.

I think it would be an awesome experience to have the grand creator of one of fantasy's greatest epics here as a guest. Especially SRD being so candid. As far as an ideal here on the board inspiring SRD, it could happen. Many authors have testified portions of their writings were motivated in part by precipitatious inspirations. Also, SRD is a very thoughtful and imaginitive writer. One whose vision is not swayed by any popular demand. He nevers sells out and that's another thing I love about SRD! It's his way or the highway. I remember one of the online interviews I read recently where he stated something as such.
If I were an author, yes I would visit one of the fansites... why not?
