OH NO!!! I just read something in Memories of Ice that got me traumatized. AAAUUUUGGGHHH!!!! NOOOOOO!!!!! Drew, in defense, oddly of SRD, GotM was the setup for what is to come. Think of it along the lines of how many people hated Runes of the Earth. In retrospect it all makes sense. This applies to Erikson as well. Gardens of the Moon is setting the stage for what is to come. And what is to come is well, riveting, exciting and full of action.
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....

Just want to say, I actually liked GotM but I must admit I am one odd duck, and I feel like most malazan fans I know only become fans in Deadhouse Gates or Memories of Ice.

I couldn't agree more. After you get over the fact he's not going to make everything obvious it just addds great depth and scope, and it's a really nice moment when books later something becomes clear, and especially when your own speculations are realised.

Okay, you're getting into details now so I'm sending the last few posts over to the MoI thread.

No need. People seem to want to discuss some of that stuff, might as well do so in the topic where spoilers aren't required.

PS I loved Runes on the first read.

and BTW I LIKE GOTM OKAY!!!! It was just confusing getting into it.
But into it (being Malazon) I've gotten.

As soon as someone sends me the next bek I'll read it.

Okay, so I've just started Deadhouse Gates
(thanks Jenny)

And let me say, that everyone was right.

I'm only three chapters in, and its WAY easier to understand than Gardens.

Just when I think I understand who someone is, or what's really going on, the author EXPLAINS it...something he didn't really do in GOTM too much.

Can't wait to finish this one.

Well, I've only read the first four. (Still only on page 109 of my re-read of HoC. Things have slowed down my reading a bit lately. Maybe I'll be on to MT in a few weeks...) Of them, I wouldn't argue with anyone who says DG or MoI is the best. Both are beyond incredible, imo. But I think there's something about DG that makes me feel like I'm right there in the story, like I went through it too. And man, what they go through...! I don't think I've had that feeling so strongly with any other book I've ever read. And, even though there's two main stories going on in it, it just feels more unified than the others.

All my opinion, of course. :D

That's arguable amongst fans, but it is definitely in the top three.
For me it's most certainly the best book. I don't know why, it just is. :D
