Excellent SD. You could have written the actual passage with your answer!
Physically he was a near-perfect transformation; better than Marc Vestabule. The Mind/Union had achieved important advances. But psychologically he was a failed experiment; he had retained too little of his past identity. An Amnioni who appeared humn, but who thought, spoke, and acted Amnion, would be too easily detected; therefore useless against humankind.

Acknowledged. New poser coming Real Soon Now.

Yours was a stellar question; while I am not going to try to top that, neither do I want to offer a challenge where the answer is too banal.

Further excuse: US tax season started this week; in addition to my own complicated household, Dam-et has an independent business for which I keep books and do taxes.

...and yes, SRD's literature professors at Wooster and Kent State would probably have had me up on plagiarism charges for the similarity of those passages.

That and more. Apologies to all for the delay.

When Special Counsel Igensard visits Captain Vertigus in his office, there is an eavesdropper listening in on the conversation. Who is it and how are they able to do so?

Well, then, I'll start off the guessing!

It's Koina Hannish listening in on the conversation, and it's this amazing radio-transmitter tooth that Sixten Vertigus has in his mouth that allows Koina to listen in!

...How close was I?

Heh. That didn't take long.

Yes, it is newly-minted UMCP Protocol Director Koina Hannish listening in. While Cord Hurn is a bit off on method (no transmitter tooth, just an open intercom channel), he is correct about whose intent and action is behind the covert sharing of the conversation.

Now, to face the temptation of the next Gap Quiz question...

New question:

What is the ultimate ambition of UMCP Protocol Director, Godsen Frik? That is to say, to what job position does he aspire?

There are two, maybe three possibilities I can think of, and only one of them had any real chance of happening, so I'm going to guess President of GCES.

Gap Quiz

Excellent, Sanity! The dream job to have, in Godsen Frik's mind is the position of President of the Governing Council for Earth and Space. (Though I admit I'm curious to know, IS, what two other positions you conceived as possibilities.)

And, now for some rounds of applause:

The other two, which I discarded as highly improbable (nigh impossible), were Holt's and Warden's jobs. President was a comparatively attainable goal.

Ok, question time...

What role relative to Warden Dios was sometimes attributed to Min Donner?

Damn. :D

Ok, why didn't Sorus obey the mutated Milos Taverners order to pursue Trumpet and engage the UMCP battleship when the gap scout re-entered human space in the Com-Mine belt after escaping Calm Horizons?

Nope. Let's say, it had something to do with it's eventual destination...
